*sigh* I don't have anything to contribute, but I think that does describe Lex well. My misgivings of him as a father have much more to with his bad parental example than any actual conscious nastiness on Lex's part.
...the reason i cringe during stories with lex's declarations of undying love is the same reason my lex is written the way he is. he doesn't say it a whole lot, but you never doubt he loves.
Yeah, it's definately there, the same way that's it's obvious that he's head over heels with Clark on the show. It's just a case of he doesn't say it. It doesn't come easy to him, and I think that sometimes he forgets the necessity of it to other people. (Okay, maybe not necessity, but sometimes there is a need to know, and to hear it stated, that someone cares.)
