WTF?

elke_tanzer has more details about this US article (LGBT Federal Workers Lose Job Protections), but I'm just reading and going "WTF?"

So, you have recourse against being fired for homosexual conduct (attending pride rallies is the example given), as long as you can prove that you're straight? Is it okay to sleep with women (or men, if you're a guy), as long as you still identify yourself as a heterosexual?

I mean, isn't it the conduct of sleeping with the same gender that gives you the status of a homosexual? How can you divide one from the other?

As I read it, it's basically saying that if you're straight, and you're fired for being gay, it's descrimination. If you actually are gay, then that's fine.

I'm rather confused by the whole thing myself, but it does seem like some people really are pushing the idea that there's a difference between being homosexual and actually doing homosexual acts.

I think, on a really deep scary level, it's one of those love the sinner hate the sin things, and they're trying to legislate and write policy based on that. Which goes against everything this country should be standing for.

*sighs* That's exactly what I was thinking- once again, one set of laws for straight people, another for gay people. :( It's fucken ridiculous. They go out of their way to make sure straight people aren't 'discriminated against' yet they go out of their way equally to make sure GLBTI people are.

I'd love it if everyone else, ala In and Out just stood up and said, "I'm gay" in support. *sighs* Bet it'd never happen, though. :(
