Earli in the morning...
It's Monday. It's the first day of my "No-LJ@Work" policy. This could be bad.
On the good side, I sent the femslash for beta, and I remembered it actually had a title. (A dodgy, cliched title, but still, a title.)

Thanks to
ladydewinter for posting the pics to her LJ.

The basics are kinda easy: the shrug, the smile, the sigh. (The trick with the last two is to make it a *kind* of smile/sigh/grin: cheeky, resigned, tired, sharp, annoyed, soft, forced... etc)
Another good couple are: ducks his head, looks up/down/away (yes, I know I overuse that one. I find the direction of someone's eyes *fascinating* *rolls eyes*), um... rolls eyes, stretches his neck, runs a hand through his hair, scratches (actually, almost anywhere, it's a good nervous trait... I don't know why I don't use it more often.)
The other big saviour is larger gestures: have them typing/writing and describe their fingers on the keyboard - do they still? do they start typing faster/harder? Do they start concentrating on the keys, typing methodically? Ditto for drinking a beer, or sitting in a rundown meeting. If you can picture it in your mind, and describe the details, it works really well.
The last thing that I've found really helpful: they don't move everytime they talk. If there's just two people in the scene you don't need to describe movements everytime they speak (which
iswas my big flaw). Frequently, the words themselves let us imagine how it's being said, and as long as it's not too many lines without reference to a speaker or a name, we can follow the conversation.Oooh, listen to me, all Miss Know It All. *snerk* Well, you know I'm just trying to be helpful, right? It's just that I have trouble meshing dialogue and action scenes sometimes. (I seem to have figured it out with helpful beta advice, but I still can't mesh dialogue/action/internal thoughts too well.)
