And, on the good side, it's a *happy* death. He's comfortable and warm and loved, and his friends are safe. That has to count for something.
(And, on the other hand, I shamelessly stole a bit of that idea from Hornblower, and Archie's death. The whole trying to hide the fatal injury is painful, yet appealing.)
