I mean, why is it there if not for the slash? There is no other conceivable explanation.

*grins widely* See, you could believe -- if you were slightly warped -- that it was simply that Dan was Casey's best friend and was feeling left out that Casey thanked Dana and ignored the fact that Dan also called him on his crap. But, me? I think it's all about the kiss.

I was going to watch another ep, but I couldn't decided which one (chronological? by interesting summary?) and then I realised it was probably a bit late, woe.

If you've got the time, go chronologically, because some things do build over the two seasons. If you just want the slashy highlights, go for The Apology (ep two) next, followed by Thespis (slashiest episode *ever* of SN), and then consider skipping to the all important fight/make-up of S2 with Draft Day (parts one and two) and April Is The Cruelest Month (which is where this icon comes from -- not manipped, just capped).

Admittedly, there are other episodes in there that I love to pieces (The Cutman Cometh is certainly a fave, the first ep of S2 made me cheer for *Dana*/Casey, which I normally don't do, and every episode has a few moments that are absolute gems), but those six (including the pilot) are probably the best for getting a mental idea of the slash potential.

I don't suppose you know of any higher-quality sources for the eps?

I don't, unfortunately. I'll ask my FList, though, because I've never downloaded it but someone else might have. Mind you, it was made in 98 so the quality won't be the best anyway. (And that god-awful laugh-track does disappear eventually. It's at its most annoying during the first five eps.)
