I am loving the fandom revival of Goncharov (1973) on tumblr. On what other website can you be endlessly amused by meta, fanart, opinions and even fic for an old gangster movie that does not exist?

If you're on tumblr, I'm hoping you're finding this as amusing as I am. If you're not, it started here from a weird misprint on a pair of shoes that then got a fantastic movie poster cover and cast, and has led to tumblr improvising an entire fandom. Hilariously, it's now trending as the number one tag on tumblr.

I love the descriptions of characters and scenes that people are just collectively making up together. I love Lynda Carter posting photographic proof of attending the premiere, since she was in the movie in a bit part. I love people posting screenshots and scenes, and correcting other fans over the director (Scorsese was the producer, not the director; it's very clear on the poster), and posting about how other shows have referenced Goncharov.

And what I really love is that when people are confused, everyone's happy to explain the joke. This isn't real. We're making it up. Come have fun with it.


ETA: And there's a Goncharov Flash Exchange being planned. I'm a little tempted to sign up for it.

I leave Tumblr for one day and when I come back it has willed an entire movie into existence. At this point, I'm expecting someone to shoot actual scenes in a city street and upload them as clips to YouTube.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happened! Honestly, I'm thrilled at how people are running with this silly thing.

They've definitely already had lots of fun making gifsets and there's a trailer on youtube. XD
I'm waiting for someone to actually cut some more scenes together!

I’ve also been having a blast with these posts! This is so creative but also so very much tumblr! Love how there is fanart, fanfic (more than for Avatar now XD), even a soundtrack that people actually composed!

I guess that’s why I can’t leave tumblr – crazy, fun things like this brighten up my days a lot.

It's a different sense of community from DW, but it is a lot of fun seeing everyone try their hand at this.
