So damn tired. Of course, part of this is because I was awake at 5.30am. *muttergrumble*
But, it hasn't been a bad day, I'm just *exhausted*.
Anyway, since Celli sent me an early, early, *early* birthday present, I'm boning up on old Olympics knowledge. Yes, expect references to the Flying Dutchman, to old records of gold medals and to the Moscow 1980 Summer Olympics that the USA boycotted due to Afganistan. (And, yes, the women's water polo final match will definitely be watched.)
However, since it's, y'know, set in 2000, I need a bit of relevant (2000) information:
1) Does anyone have any idea where I could find some sort of timetable for the Sydney 2000 events? When was what held?
2) Were there any athletes (US, in particular) that suffered injuries/setbacks just before the 2000 Olympics? I'm wondering if there were any of those "triumphs over adversery" that everyone loves reading about.
3) *sighs* Who was in the White House in 2000? I mean, I just realised I made that crack about "a republican in the White House" (in part two, I think), but I have a sneaking suspicion that Clinton would have still been President back then, and he's Democrat, right? (Hey, I have a limited interest in my own country's politics. The only reason I care about US politics is WW. *g*)
ETA: Am insanely amused that the icon listed below "Sleepy Sam" is "Rapture Sam". Heh.

CNN/Sports Illustrated has a schedule here (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/sydney_schedules/), searchable by date or sport.
And yes, Clinton was in the White House, and the elections hadn't been held yet. Can't remember the climate off the top of my head, but there were high hopes for Gore. Despite the huge fundraising, I'm not sure too many democrats took Bush seriously at all. (I can't imagine that Dan would think Bush Jr had a chance in November.)

*hugs you* Just what I needed!
Oh, how freaky. The two days before the opening ceremony was all soccer matches. Dana's threat of covering each soccer game was a very real one.
Wow. That site is *great*. Easy to follow, but... damnit, my book assured me there was a sailing comptetion called "the flying dutchman", and CNN lists no such thing. (The name alone is too much fun to ignore.)

Joke was made July/August, so... Huh. Maybe I could change the line to "...and there's a strong chance that a Republican will be in office."
Huh. I'll have to think about it. Any ideas?

I have no idea.
Meanwhile, dammit. I had the snark going. Stupid real world interrupting my fiction.

Bush as son of Bush and highest money-raiser ever = pretty much automatic Republican nominee.
NB: in July/August, the Conventions may not have even happened yet, which means each of them would only have been the presumptive nominee. Like Kerry is now. He ain't official until the Dem. Convention.
And then there was the third party nomination. Greens party. What the hell is his name? He's going to stuff things up this year like he did in 2000... not Ross Perrot... Argh! Someone on your f-list will know who I mean.

2) My book listed it as an actual sailing event. Methinks moreresearch is called for. (A sport that involves a two-person sailing boat with one of them on a flying trapeze? Damn, that makes sailing sound *fun*.)

And hang on, I think I've been confusing the name. *checks Google* Yep, it's *Eric* the Eel, and *Eddie* the Eagle (http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/05/27/1053801396577.html) (really bad ski-jumper). Stupid similar-sounding nicknames. Sigh. All too confusing.
Hee, that *does* sound fun.

I'm gonna be good tonight, I swear. I'm going to bed EARLY. Like, 7 or 8 pm.
...if you catch me online, yell at me, okay?

Good idea. I crashed at 10 last night (which is early for me, becuase normally it takes me an hour to fall asleep. And I didn't wake up during the night (I've been sleeping oddly this week), and woke up at 6.45am. I'm almost feeling human this morning (okay, still cranky, 'cos it's morning, but... yeah, not too bad.)
...if you catch me online, yell at me, okay?
Well, if you're online after my lunchtime, I will *strongly* nudge you towards bed. That good enough?
Although, could new co-worker bugger off with all these questions first thing in the morning. Give me an hour to wake up before I have to talk to people... it's not too much to ask, is it?
