SN Fic: Like Sailing and Home Runs

Title: Like Sailing and Home Runs (Therapy WIP)
Fandom: Sports Night
Pairing: Dan/Casey
Rating: NC-17
Summary: "Let's see." Dan ran a hand through his hair. "One guy freaks about his father dying, seduces his -- let's not forget, straight -- best friend, and then freaks out during sex. It's not exactly the plot to The Best Romance Novel of All Time."

Notes: I'm so tempted to subtitle this fic: "What happens in Connecticut, stays in Connecticut." Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum for betaing and [livejournal.com profile] docmichelle for the American-check. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy for not laughing at my questions and [livejournal.com profile] celli for patiently holding my hand.

I'm cheating slightly on this by posting it before I've gotten the final okay regarding Americanisms, but I'm going to be busy for the next two days and I'd really like this up and posted. If there's any errors, I can correct it on the html file and upload the new one before anyone notices.

I love this, too. I'll be more coherent about it over the weekend, but this is definitely my favorite of your long stories. For a few reasons.

!!!!!!!!!

I read this on the plane. Actually, I read MOST of it on the plane. I got until Casey went to Danny's to give him his present and then we were landing so I had to turn it off. >.< WAH! I was going crazy!

Oh, such love. I love all the bits I loved before, and the other stuff!!! GAH! I swear I had some lines to copy and paste because I adored them so much but I.. glerg. Yes. Oh, when Casey said he was a little bit in love with Dan, I squeaked. I giggled over things, I sniffled over others. It's a good thing the dude next to me was sleeping.

I can not think of enough good things to say about this story. The way the Giants game and the sailing all tied together.. so so lovely. And the hottness of the stuff Dan was NOT gonna share out loud.. mehehe. Yay.

Thank you for this.

I can see why! It sucks to have to stop reading the moment *before* the happy ending.

Oh, when Casey said he was a little bit in love with Dan, I squeaked.

*beams* Thank you. Personally, that's one of my favourite bits -- probably because I can so easily imagine Casey making his big emotional confession in "kind of"s and "almost" and "a little bit"s -- so I'm thrilled that I made you squeak. (And you're right: it's a good thing that the guy beside you was asleep.)

I'm on a huge SGA run at the moment, but I'm so pleased this is finished. I'm going to save it for an evening when I can sit down and savour it.

Sounds like a plan. (Meanwhile, I know precisely what you mean about SGA. Such fannish crack.)

Lord, yes! I keep finding new rec lists, with stories I haven't read yet. And I've friended a couple of people and communities, and I just can't keep up with the output! It's amazing how many fantastic authors have got into the fandom. Sheer bliss, if only I had more time!

I know! Any time I have a spare moment, there's always good stories to read. And more constantly being written. *happy sigh*

This story was such a treat, and the characters felt so real, in their universe of mistakes and caring and history with each other (and it was long fic! so I got to spend a lot of time there *g*) I *love* Danny's confrontation with father, the great relief that was, and still the tension between them, how things can't be solved.

Plus, world domination through zippers!

Hee!

I *love* Danny's confrontation with father, the great relief that was, and still the tension between them, how things can't be solved.

That was one of my favourite things about writing this story: the amount of things that can be fixed and the amount that can't. The way that things can be resolved, people can come to an understanding over a topic, but it doesn't necessarily *fix* anyone or anything. The way that the things that make you feel better about yourself frequently have nothing to do with other people -- mostly, it comes down to how *you* feel about a given topic -- because having someone else forgive you doesn't make it all better, you need to forgive yourself.

And I swear, that as I was writing it, I didn't realise how strongly I believed in some of the themes in there. Now that it's done, I'm surprised at how much of it feels true to me.

Plus, world domination through zippers!

It could happen. That's why I try to stick to buttons and velcro. *g*
