PB Ficlet: My Family by Jason Tancredi
Title: My Family by Jason Tancredi
Fandom: Prison Break
Pairing: Alex/Michael/Sara
Word Count: 442
Notes: Future-fic and ridiculously domestic, but the idea refused to leave me. Since there's about four people who are going to read this, I didn't bother with getting it beta-read.
My Family by Jason Tancredi
I have a big family but we don't see them all the time. Normally, it's just me, Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Alex.
Daddy works in the city. He has an office way up high with big glass windows. When you look down the people and the cars are so small they look like toys!
Daddy's job is to make little toy buildings. He calls them models. When he works at night, he brings them home and lets me drive my cars through the streets.
Mommy's job is at the shelter. She says she helps but Uncle Alex says she works as hard as Daddy and she's there every school day, so it's like a job. Some afternoons, me and Uncle Alex walk to the shelter to meet Mommy. It's a big old house with lots of bedrooms and a big swing in the garden. There's always kids there to play with.
Uncle Alex used to be a policeman, like Officer Matt on TV. But that was a long time ago. Now, Uncle Alex takes me to school and picks me up at the end of the day. After school, me and Uncle Alex play catch or bake cookies in funny colors or read my school book. Some afternoons, he plays Mario with me. Uncle Alex always plays as Luigi and says that Luigi can't jump very well and that's why he dies a lot. I think he's just not very good at it.
Every Summer, we drive for a long time and go camping. Daddy and Mommy and Uncle Alex and me always get there first and start putting up tents. Then Uncle Linc and Aunty Sofia come and sometimes they bring LJ. LJ's my cousin but he's all grown up so he's more like an uncle.
Uncle Linc always says I've grown bigger and says I'm his favourite nephew. It makes me feel bad for Uncle Nando's kids because they should be someone's favourites too.
Uncle Nando is my most fun uncle. When I see him, he always says, "Hola, Little Fish!" and lifts me up and spins me around until I'm so dizzy I think I'll puke. His family came from Mexico and he can speak Spanish. He teaches me words like hola and adios. That means hello and goodbye in Spanish.
Uncle Nando always brings Aunty Maricruz, Lila, Marcos, Dangelo and Araceli. Dangelo's only two and Araceli is a baby so they can't play. Marcos is five and Lila is seven so us three are allowed to explore the woods and play tag and make smores with Mommy and Uncle Alex.
That's my family.

Eeeee! \o/
The victory arms are because I wondered if this was going to feel too artificial to be cute, and if my self-indulgent ridiculously happy fantasies of them all settling down and having families was going to be way too far from canon to work.
But yay for someone else loving their big, crazy family.

Eeeeeeeee! This is just so adorably cute. I'm not even sure why, but it pleases me enormously that Jason has has Sara's surname. Alex taking him to school, and baking cookies, and playing video games, and, just, yes. It's perfect that he should have that. And Uncle Nando! ::squeals:: 'Little Fish,' heh. The whole camping scene, I can just see it, all of them being happy and hanging out and being family. I love it so much ::squishes them all, and you:: *g*

I thought about that and realised that it makes sense. I'm not entirely sure Michael and Sara would get married (not when the relationship is between three of them) and even if they did, I don't know if Sara would take Michael's name. She's just not that traditional, you know?
Plus, Michael has his mom's maiden name. And I don't think he'd have that weird attitude of "carrying the surname down the generations". And Jason Tancredi has a nice ring to it.
Alex taking him to school, and baking cookies, and playing video games, and, just, yes. It's perfect that he should have that.
After Cameron, I think this would be enormously healing for Alex to enjoy parenthood as the main caregiver at home. (I can just imagine Alex looking after a 3 year old Jason, spending his day basically playing with Jason and getting time to do the things that he honestly didn't get the time to do with Cameron.) Alex would be an awesome dad, and Sara and Michael would still have enough ambition that they'd want to help other people, they'd want to have outside jobs. It would just work.
And Uncle Nando! ::squeals:: 'Little Fish,' heh.
Little Fish! I love that nickname. I love it even more that I don't think anyone would ever tell Jason the reasoning behind it. (But as a kid, you don't really question nicknames anyway.)
The whole camping scene, I can just see it, all of them being happy and hanging out and being family. I love it so much ::squishes them all, and you:: *g*
*beams* We can really see why I want to write fiction for this group: I just want to see them happy.

*agrees completely*
And Uncle Nando! He would have hundreds of digital photographs of his children.
Oh, hee! You're right, he totally would. He'd probably keep a bunch of them on his phone, and show anyone who showed the slightest bit of interest.
But it was actually this that totally slayed me with the adorable:
When he works at night, he brings them home and lets me drive my cars through the streets.
I couldn't decide which was cuter: having Michael's kid think Michael's entire job was building toy cities for people or the scene of Michael working at home. He'd be carefully working on angles and measurements, making sure all the details were right in the model, and letting Jason drive little matchbox cars down the street. Knowing Michael, he'd probably whip out paper and fold up some little origami trees and people and maybe even little pets to fill up the streets and give Jason something to play with. Michael might even be tempted to join in and drive a car around the streets with Jason (I'm sure he'd even make the appropriate motor noises).

He would! He totally would! And Sara or Alex, or both, would watch, smiling, from the doorway, the way Michael's face is lit from within at the fun he's having.
omg I love them all.

Also: 'Little Fish'? So cute. :)

He really is!
And, I guess I just really love the idea of everyone actually getting their happy endings and yet still keeping in touch and going CAMPING and seeing each other every summer.
They've spent so much time getting to know each other -- and it's really clear that the five of them care about each other so much -- I think it'd make perfect sense for them to see each other every summer. They totally deserve a happy end after all the stress and angst they've gone through to get this far.
(Hear that, TPTB? I want a happy end for my show, damnit.)

YES. Me too. And if enough of us say it, then they're bound to hear us and listen. At least, they better. *makes threatening face in TPTB's general direction*

Jason Tancredi with his adoring parents, and a big extended family. ♥

*laughs* I know what you mean. It's sweet enough to put a diabetic in a coma, but it makes me happy. Jason and his big, huge, loving family!

It's sort of hilarious to imagine Michael - only ever had Lincoln, lonely recluse Michael - with twenty people over for every birthday, holiday, weekend, etc.

There actually is. I think there was more, too -- questions answered by Jason and a fic called Dentists and Bravery (or something like that) all set in this universe. It was started before s4 ended, and according isn't supported by canon, but I love the idea of this family unit, living in San Diego and working, and catching up with old jail-breaking buddies every summer.

Hee. In my mind, it would only be every summer they'd all catch up. They'd all live in different cities (I think Linc would have settled in Panama with Sofia, Sucre would be in Chicago with Mariecruz, Michael, Sara and Alex would be San Diego), but once a year, there'd be a big camping trip where all three families hung around for weeks together. They'd be late night talking, and someone watching over the kids, and this real sense of belonging to large family, despite the distance that usually seperated them.
I don't think Michael would be able to handle more so many people more often than that. (And even once a year, he'd probably try to escape to be on his own for a while during the camping trip, when everyone got too much for him.)
