Last year's stats
Fannish works posted this year:
January:
Leave the Signs and the Sirens - Sherlock, John/Sherlock, 24,575 words.
After John's released and back home at Baker St, Sherlock still feels it. Down the centre of his chest there's an ache like a healing wound. A physical awareness of a body he usually ignores as much as he can. It's psychosomatic, nothing more interesting than that.
February:
Only Good at Being Young, QaFUS, Brian/Justin, requested ficlet, 516 words.
He’s not a teenager any more, but it turns out there are still things he hasn't imagined. Things that feel good, things that he wants, things he's going to discover with Brian.
Biting My Tongue All Week, Glee, Kurt/Blaine, episode reaction, 4096 words.
"I love you, but I love all of you. Including the parts of you that get scared and angry and sad. I love the parts of you that love Katy Perry and charming bowties just as much as I love the parts of you that love Spice World and shouting at pointless sports on TV."
(Spoilers for episode 3.14 "On My Way")
June:
Shining Upon the Waves, Glee, Kurt/Blaine, AU, 52,815 words.
Not even Kurt Hummel can spin a three-month stint as a piano player on a cruise ship as a logical step to fame and success.
July:
Types, re: Breaking Them, Glee, Sebastian/Blaine, Kurt/Blaine, AU, 12251 words.
It’s common knowledge that Blaine Anderson is only the Editor-in-Chief because he went to boarding school with the current CEO. Blaine’s quiet and conservative, and Kurt doesn’t approve of his dress sense – every suit he wears into the office is navy, black or charcoal – but he approves of his Armani-wearing boyfriend even less. An Armani suit is designed to be noticed, it’s attention-grabbing while playing it safe, and Kurt’s never admired anyone who chose the safe option.
Fannish works posted in August:
One on One (I Wanna Play That Game Tonight) - Glee, Kurt/Blaine, canon compliant, 4677 words.
The weekly challenge causes some friendly competition over Hall & Oates; Blaine has the most amazing boyfriend but somehow uses a double-negative to call him mediocre; Kurt doesn’t fight fair, and Blaine’s not complaining at all.
October:
Cupid Is Not His Preferred Name - Glee, Kurt/Blaine, AU, 9670 words.
When Blaine joined the acolytes of Aphrodite, there was respect for the art of matchmaking. Admittedly, that was a long time ago. These days, helping people recognise true love is a lot harder. (AU, set early s2. No spoilers.)
Conclusion:
7 stories, which is only two more than last year but nearly 100K more words.
Breakdown by fandom:
1 Sherlock (mostly written in 2011, but not finalised/posted until 2012) - 24,575 words
1 Queer As Folk US - 516 words
5 Glee – 83,509 words
Total words written: 108,600
Thoughts:
It’s been fantastic to get back to my more productive levels of output, and clearly this has been the year I fell hard for Kurt/Blaine in Glee. Most of my output this year has been Kurt/Blaine. I think getting back to the monthly round-ups helped – and it makes the yearly one so much easier – but I think a lot of the output is just that falling-in-love-with-a-new-fandom thing.
It was really nice this year to feel like a part of a fandom again. I thought watching s2 of Sherlock would drag me back in, but instead it gave me closure on fannish output. The canon itself answers most things I’d wondered about so the slate was clean for Glee fandom to gobble me whole.
Interestingly, the AU I had started in 2011 never got written – I still like one of the future scenes but I hate going against canon unintentionally, and… some of the certainty of that Blaine has been completely undermined by canon so it’s no longer in-character – but the other Glee stories got written (Shining Upon the Waves and Types, re: Breaking Them were the two AUs in the goals post for last year). The non-Glee stories didn’t.
Goals for 2012:
Last year, I mentioned that I wanted to write something for Inception (didn’t happen) and an AU for Hawaii 50. I also asked for prompts for More Joy Day (in last January) which I never wrote. It’d be nice to write those.
I’ve also got two Glee wips going (Children & Chanel; the Entourage fusion AU) that I’d like to finish. But I don’t have any huge aims for the year. Just to keep being productive.
Audience Participate Time:
If you got to the end of this self-indulgent post, I'm opening up the floor. Any questions you want to ask about the 2012 stories? Or any questions in general? Feel free to ask.
