This was so wonderful. I loved the magical realism of it, the idea that Mycroft quite literally sees people haunted by their own demons. He sees the world in a way that no one else does but has learned how to effectively hide and smother his own reactions to what he sees. It was a really imaginative and interesting idea.

Community is a show that I love. I love all of the characters and the ridiculousness. I love the fun they have with TV genres while at the same time sidestepping stereotypes and making me laugh. But in a fic, I need some ridiculousness and a whole lot of heart, and this story delivers. It's delightful, a five things fic of naps and friendships.

I love the Mummy. I love Indiana Jones. I don't know why I've never before considered how absolutely fantastic a crossover between the two would be. This fic takes two characters that I love and shows how well they'd get along (or, y'know, how terribly annoyed Indy would be at Rick, even as they manage to save each other and occasionally steal artifacts).

This story has great pacing and wonderful build to the payoff, and is so much fun. Read it.

This last one I've held on to for a while, thinking that I'd write up a nice long rec like it deserves, but since I keep not getting there, we'll go with a quick rec instead.

Right from the start, I love this Greg and how down-to-earth he feels, even if he's a bit lost in routine and his job. Right from the start, we have Mycroft as the interferring, orchestrating big brother, posh and powerful but also inherently practical and showing his appreciation in coffee and a bacon sandwich. (For the record, I can totally understand why you'd fall in love with someone who gave coffee and bacon sandwiches.)

I love the slow growth of their relationship. I love that this is very much Greg's story, because anyone who's gone through the trouble of househunting and then found that one place that they adore, that feels like *home* understands how marvellous that feels. (One of the best parts of being an adult, I have to say.) I like the other characters, especially Sally Donovan who feels like such a comrade in arms to Greg -- not someone he'd necessarily befriend by choice, but someone he's worked with long enough to feel some kinship there. I like John and Sherlock and Anthea, and the warmth of memories and worldbuilding in this story.

It really is quite lovely.

This is a wonderful post-s4 story that I enjoyed in every way. I'm usually not a fan of switching POVs but it worked wonderfully here, to see both Sherlock and Mycroft from sympathetic angles, to see that they are both very different and very similar, realising things in different ways and at different speeds, but eventually finding such a wonderful peace and connection between the two of them.

I loved Euros in this, how sharp and opaque she can be, shifting in what she shows to different people. That she felt like a geniune unknowable threat, something terrifying and yet so easily overlooked. This story extrapolates her influence, what she might do next and how she could do it, but I also loved filling out the Holmes childhood. The sheer oddness of parents refusing to acknowledge a member of the family (which must have happened for Sherlock to delete the memories); Mycroft's ability to resist her growing as he got older, the stronger influence that she had over everyone when she was younger; the very skewed perspective that Mrs Holmes has of Mycroft, which left me wondering how much influence Euros had over her parents as a child, how easily she could have turned the family narrative into Mycroft as a "sneaky, sullen, jealous little boy" while "Euros was smarter, and Sherlock happier".

I also really liked everyone else in this. John's growing anger underlying everything, that feels as if it needs to be acknowledged before John and Sherlock can continue. I loved the description of Molly "tender as a deep blue bruise" and finding a way to live more of her life away from the madness of Sherlock. The steady support of Lestrade, who keeps encouraging Sherlock to be a good man, and is there when John can't be, and for Mycroft, the cooler, more professional advice of Lady Smallwood.

It's a deeply satisfying read.

Recs for two stories I've enjoyed reading. First of all, an SGA AU rec. Something I loved so much about SGA and McShep was how well the characters could translate into other stories and other settings and still be *them*. Second rec is for a Mystrade fic that I enjoyed. (I'll also say that it might just be me, but the ending felt a little quick -- nonetheless, I really enjoyed the rest of this story, so I think others might too.) What I liked about it was how it took s4 canon and extrapolated from there: the idea of Mycroft and Lestrade previously being lovers (which wouldn't be mentioned in the show since John's our POV, but could be possible), a different background for Lestrade (which I wouldn't have considered, but I love how there's a few canonical details used to support it), and an internally logical extension of how Eurus could be a threat. I really enjoyed the internal logic of it, and how well it works with canon.

This is such a wonderfully satisfying story. I loved everything about it (and can't believe I've only just discovered it now). It felt really well placed and gave someone with very little skiing experience (read: a tabogganing trip as a kid) a clear idea of the comfort and luxury of the ski lodges, the beauty of the view, and the more mundane realities of Greg's life working in the village.

I'm fond of a well written holiday fling (and disappointed that life doesn't follow the meet-cute rules of narratives, honestly) and I do love a good AU, and this hits both requirements. It's a lovely holiday romance, with a few very hot scenes, and the conclusion feels possible and well earned.

I also loved the Holmes in this, especially Sherlock who is both obnoxious and brilliant. You can clearly feel how much Mycroft cares for his family, and simultaneously how deeply infuriating he finds them (especially Sherlock, but certainly his mum too).

Sometimes, what I really love about a Mycroft/Lestrade story is the acceptance of middle age and real-world concerns, how staying the night with someone seems great, but after a while the commute becomes impractical and moving in together makes more sense. If you can agree on where you want to move and what the place needs to have.

This is a lovely little established relationship story about Mycroft and Greg moving in together. The areas are well described for those of us who don't know London well and there's such a nice shared understanding of what they value in life. One of those stories where the relationship makes emotional sense and you can see it working very well for them both.

This is a Christmas treat that I came upon last night. It's upbeat and fun, and I really like the Mycroft and Greg here. I can totally believe that someone who takes videos of Sherlock for future mockery and sometimes yells when others are hungover would find a cheeky, mischievous glee at challenging the Diogenes and convincing members to wear hideous Christmas sweaters. I also like Mycroft in here, someone clearly powerful, someone who spends a lot of time ensuring the world continues to turn as expected, but also someone who's very fond of Greg and finds him extremely amusing. That's what I really love about this, that Mycroft and Greg know each other so well and appreciate each other, that they both accept each other for who they are.

(I also loved the difference in how they influence people. That Mycroft may be all Professional Ramifications and knowing the family background of every member, but Greg learns all the staff names. They can both clearly see the politics around them, even if Greg only plays to amuse himself and is far too clever to get involved in Mycroft's job in any way.)

These days, to get me reading a series you have to sneak it in. It has to start with a good story that stands on its own, that makes me want to read more and that can be read in relatively small chunks. While this series is 200K, the longest story is the first at 38K and the rest are a very comfortable 5K - 20K per story. I enjoyed the Greg POV mostly used for this story, the insight into living around a job that comes with a security detail and secret overseas trips, and I always love stories where Lestrade plays a meaningful role in younger Sherlock getting clean and staying clean.

I've been reading this series for the last week, on and off, and really enjoyed it.

"Oh, that ship sailed some years ago. You've been vocal enough about what you don't want. So tell me, brother dear, what is it you do want?"

"You to leave me the fuck alone," said Sherlock venomously.

Several heads turned. Mycroft ignored them. He took such incidents for granted when he was with Sherlock and had never cared what strangers thought - unless required to do so by his job.

Things I love about this fic:
- scheming, powerful, morally dubious Mycroft
- persistent, hard-working, determined Lestrade
- John and Sherlock being likeable and annoying in equal measure
- an angel mythology that's half Good Omens and half Supernatural (and that wonderful feeling that after working against someone for centuries, you actually have more in common with them than with your own rarely-seen higher ups)
- wings!

My sign of the best AUs are the ones that leave me wanting more, leave me imagining what else might happen in that universe and how they'd react, and this is a nice series of three stories that worked really well for me. I love the idea of Mycroft as Hell's Great Tactician (who's really decided to ignore the Great War for a while because human politics is his idea of fun) and I love Lestrade as an outclassed angel, someone who knows he's not Mycroft's equal but that doesn't mean he isn't going to try to help humanity anyway. Plus, wing smut. (Mmmmm, wings.)

(Also, the mention of Aziraphale in the second story made me grin. Mostly because I could imagine Lestrade and Aziraphale chatting over a cuppa. I could even imagine Crowley there. However I bet that Crowley would avoid Mycroft as much as he could, because Crowley's general approach to powerful demons is to slink away and hope he wasn't noticed.)

I wanted to rec this story earlier, except I kept thinking of it as the "start with a blowjob" story and couldn't remember title or author. But I remembered enjoying it. (I have a weakness for romance that starts with sex and works it's way up to feelings.

I like a busy, impatient Mycroft and a Lestrade who's not going to let him get away with just ordering the world around him to suit him. And snarky. I love these two being sarcastic together.

"Then can we get on with this, please?"

"This? You mean the mind blowing sex?"

"At this point, I would be happy with really quite ordinary sex."

I also like that it starts as sex and sarcasm but builds to a rather satisfying plot. There's action and intrigue, ulterior motives and clever manipulation, and an interesting insight into Mycroft's life. (Which only looks dull from the outside.) A story that's worth re-reading.
