This is a wonderful post-s4 story that I enjoyed in every way. I'm usually not a fan of switching POVs but it worked wonderfully here, to see both Sherlock and Mycroft from sympathetic angles, to see that they are both very different and very similar, realising things in different ways and at different speeds, but eventually finding such a wonderful peace and connection between the two of them.

I loved Euros in this, how sharp and opaque she can be, shifting in what she shows to different people. That she felt like a geniune unknowable threat, something terrifying and yet so easily overlooked. This story extrapolates her influence, what she might do next and how she could do it, but I also loved filling out the Holmes childhood. The sheer oddness of parents refusing to acknowledge a member of the family (which must have happened for Sherlock to delete the memories); Mycroft's ability to resist her growing as he got older, the stronger influence that she had over everyone when she was younger; the very skewed perspective that Mrs Holmes has of Mycroft, which left me wondering how much influence Euros had over her parents as a child, how easily she could have turned the family narrative into Mycroft as a "sneaky, sullen, jealous little boy" while "Euros was smarter, and Sherlock happier".

I also really liked everyone else in this. John's growing anger underlying everything, that feels as if it needs to be acknowledged before John and Sherlock can continue. I loved the description of Molly "tender as a deep blue bruise" and finding a way to live more of her life away from the madness of Sherlock. The steady support of Lestrade, who keeps encouraging Sherlock to be a good man, and is there when John can't be, and for Mycroft, the cooler, more professional advice of Lady Smallwood.

It's a deeply satisfying read.
