Summary:
Reflections: I never thought I'd write Cabin Pressure fic, but Picfor1000 is a challenge that I use as an excuse to try a new fandom. (A thousand words isn't *that* much, and it works for me.) So, this time, it was Cabin Pressure. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't the post-series story I'd initially imagined (I mean, I loved the end of the series, I really did, but in my heart of hearts, I'm terribly fond of Martin and Douglas flying the skies together) but I really like this story.
No, to be honest, I really like the footnotes which were a way of cheating the 1000 word count limit but needed to be done. Because Herc's Barbie-pink car and Arthur's inscrutable pot pies are my two favourite parts of this story.
It actually reminds me a lot of my old SN stuff simply because it's so dialogue/banter heavy. There is very little description between the spoken dialogue but for a radio-play canon, that works fine.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply

Characters: Harry Hart, Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, Merlin (Kingsman), James | Lancelot (Kingsman)

Summary:
Reflections: This was the story I had to write after seeing Kingsman. Kingsman was a rare occurance -- a hot day, an idea to go to the movies, no real idea of what I wanted to see -- that swept me away. The choice to "go see the latest Colin Firth movie" turned out to be a movie that I absolutely loved: fun, humorous, violent, and Colin Firth as a deadly, dashing spy who likes small dogs and kitsch furnishings and has a dirty sense of humour and a love of 80s movies. I mean, yes, Eggsy is lovely and so is Roxy and Merlin's great and Valentine was a fun villain, and the plotting was excellent and the stunts were impressive, but Harry Hart is my favourite.
I came out of that cinema wanting more of Harry Hart (for obvious reasons) and still thinking about the dog test, which really jarred me at the time. I started this story for those reasons, and didn't realise it would turn into Eggsy/Harry until about halfway through it. I convinced myself of the pairing by writing it, which I find a little funny.
It's really my big story of how I see Harry. There's this acceptance and the slight effort to try to be a gentleman -- something that takes conscious effort and consideration of others, not something one can assume or take for granted -- and this odd combination of being careful but determined, of needing time to assess the situation and decide on the next step and then going forward full-pace once it's decided. I loved the James/Harry background to this story, the level of background knowledge Harry has about how Kingsman works, and how genuinely he cares about Eggsy (and respects him) before he's even decided if he wants to pursue this.
This is my Harry Hart. And these are all the reasons I love him as a fictional character.

Summary:
Reflections: This story came about because there just wasn't much space for Roxy in the last Kingsman fic. I like Roxy as a character but that story was all about Harry and we barely see Harry and Roxy interact, and there was just no organic place for her. So we have this story -- Roxy and Eggsy's friendship, with a little bit of outlying Harry/Eggsy. It's mostly an excuse for snark and support and both of them having everyday conversations while killing off bad guys and sneaking into hidden bases and doing boring recon work that Eggsy hates.
I loved that I got a chance to write Roxy as an efficient spy (because she is, she's awesome) and as someone who honestly does not get the appeal of Harry Hart. Just... does not get it. Thinks Eggsy is a little weird for being so head-over-heels infatuated with the guy. Plus, it's a funny story. It made me laugh (and the awesome podfic makes me laugh more).
There's a fine line between "supportive best friend" and yenta but I think this story manages to stick to the believable friendship side of it.
Conclusion
3 stories but last year was only 6 and 9 the year before. (In word count terms, though, it's 19K this year, 19K last year, and 23K the year before, so I've clearly hit a steady output, low as it is.)
Breakdown by fandom:
1 Cabin Pressure - 1,000 (technically and not including footnotes :D )
2 Kingsman - 18,469
Total Word Count: 19,469
I used to include a "thoughts" and "goals" section but for three stories it hardly seems worth it. I will mention that that Trope Bingo managed to inspire one story and one WIP (Prison Break, but it's stalled and I've stopped spending time writing). I mean, the obvious trend was that I fell into Kingsman fandom and then stalled, but it was fun for a while there.

Summary:
The strangest thing in Martin’s life is not smuggled dictionaries, inscrutable pot pies or life-sized Barbie cars. It’s Douglas.

Summary:
Where rumours of Harry's death have been greatly exaggerated, Merlin doesn't know if he's Arthur or Martha (and prefers to be neither), and every agent has his own justification for the dog test. Also, Harry is not dithering over his attraction to Eggsy (no matter what Merlin claims).

Sometimes, good mates have to agree to disagree.
(Or: Roxy and Eggsy may be friends, but that doesn’t mean they understand each other’s romantic tastes. At all.)
