out_there: A present for my 25th birthday (SGA: Reading Rodney by Celli)

Thanks to [personal profile] coprime reccing a few stories, I've been going through a Pirates of the Caribbean phase. It's all been Sparrow/Norrington (because I have a weakness for Jack Davenport, and I think everyone has a weakness for the wonderful appeal of Cap'n Jack Sparrow), but I wanted to recommend this one especially. I've been reading it as a bedtime story for the last week, and it kept my interest right until the end. Jack is incorrigible and easily encouraged, and Norrington is a good man, somewhat hampered by following rules but inherently honourable.

This has the feel of Hornblower -- a boys' own adventure of Navy hijinks on teh high seas -- and a touch more historically grounded/adult than the canon itself, but in a way that suits a character like Norrington, serious and duty-bound. It's a qualified happy ending -- I mention that because, for a while, I was concerned that it would be a noble tragedy -- but one that feels believable and satisfying.
