Well, since I've just read this fic, it probably means that every other HP fan has already stumbled across this, but an extra rec never hurts.
The Tale of the Shining Prince is amazing. It's one of those fics that takes canon and characters, gives it a totally new style and perspective, and introduces you to a vivid new world, full of depth and narrative. Think about Lust Over Pendle, and you'll get an idea of what I mean.
I don't read a lot of HP fiction, but this was wonderful. Even if you're like me, and only read a couple HP fics a year, go read this. It is utterly convincing, and deeply satisfying in a way that most fiction, whether fannish or professional, is not.
seperis rec'ed this, as did
eliade (here) and spoke about the stylistic effect of this piece in a far more articulate way than I can manage. I'll just say that I haven't been quite this impressed with a piece of fiction for quite a while, and there honestly isn't anything that I'd change about it.
