And, just after I posted about how Casey/Dan are my happy, hopeful couple, I'm going to post an angsty rec.
Too Early For The Circus by Jess. It's more Casey angst than anything else, but it's handled in a delightfully gentle manner. I love Casey's flashbacks to his grandmother, I love the pain that feels... so ordinary, so common, and yet, felt deeply by Casey.
I like the almost dreamy descriptions, evocative and eloquent just a little distanced. It's easy friendship, and crossing boundaries, and full of sharp pains and soft aches, the hurts you share and ones you don't. I like Casey himself, the quiet, somewhat conservative, almost passive narrator. He rings true to me. And despite the bittersweet feel of the piece, the way it quietly mourns for lost innocence, it has a very sweet ending.
And there's a sequel, of sorts. Groundless And Free which proves that she can do the Danny angst just as well. Lovely piece that just makes you want to hug the boys.
And, while I'm on an angst kick, and I am, I'm also going to rec her (and Luna's) Dana/Natalie fic I Don't Like Mondays
Hmmm... there's another Danny/Casey story, A Man Can Breathe, with Casey hiding out at the office and wondering about his lost shoes. I don't *think* it's connected to the other two, but it could be. It's just the brief mention of the circus that makes me wonder. It's a lighter tone than the others, and the narrative style feels much closer to Casey, and more humourous.
Anyway, I'd still recommend you check it out (whether or not it's connected to the other two), because it's Casey doing his own blend of neurotic, which is always sweet and touching and rather funny.
It's surprisingly easy to hide in here. I'm not even scrunched up behind the couch or anything. I'm sitting at my desk, with the door open. But I'm hiding.
I've come to the conclusion that most of the people around here like Dan better than they like me. I'm not feeling sorry for myself; it's a simple statement of fact. Sure, he has his days, but nobody's knocking down our door, and he's out of the office today. That's not a coincidence.

The gay! The gay!
Mar. 4th, 2004 11:21 pmManaged to tape an episode of the Clerks cartoon. I can't believe the cartoon is slashier than the film!
In this episode, Randal and Dante (and Jay and Silent Bob) lock themselves in the freezer (as they've done many times before) and spend the night reminiscing. I find out that Randal taped Dante losing his virginity, that Randal married a Japanese businessman (filled out a mail-order bride sheet wrong) and later that year married Dante by mistake. Then they get free, and manage to lock themselves in the video store overnight.
I'm shocked there is that amount of slash, but it made me laugh. (I'm thinking I might host an Askewniverse night, since all the films are damn slashy. Out of choice, I'd probably screen Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma, since I don't think we'd get through 5 films in a night.)
On a Mum update, just got a call. She's been driving for 13 hours, and she's in Perth! Far out. Although, good to know she got there safely.
And also, it's *hot*. That's why I'm up, when I should be asleep.

"Bad calculations!"
Mar. 4th, 2004 11:57 pmOooh! S1 Buffy. Complete with ultra-tiny *short* dresses combined with knee high leather (go-go) boots. Heh. (I'm not kidding. The bottom of that dress is about 3 inches below her crotch, if that.)
And, super-snarky Giles!
And super-bitchy Cordy! *loves* I'm amused that the song lyrics are "the girl who knows no shame" when Cordy's dancing with Owen.
Still love the "In that case, I won't wear my button that says 'I'm a Slayer! Ask me how!'"
You know what I don't love? The Annoying One.
And, because I'm a total dork, my desktop at home. ( *shrugs* )
