Firefly Rec: The Instant of a Wreck
May. 14th, 2005 06:33 pmI love Mal. I really, really do. I adore Simon, but Simon's rather me-like. I love Mal because he's not. Because he's complicated. Because he's sometimes a jerk and sometimes a great guy; because he's always a better man than he thinks he is and he's smarter than most give him credit for.
He has a very distinct voice and that's pretty hard to pull off in fiction. (Believe me, I've triedand failed.) However,
gritkitty's The Instant of a Wreck is a wonderful story that shows Mal during the war, when he was young, frightened and still believed in God.
It's NC-17, although not really a pairing piece (written for the Military Wank Ficathon), and is well worth your time.
