out_there: A present for my 25th birthday (SGA: Reading Rodney by Celli)
Two recs of very different natures.

Firstly, we have Jim Moriaty/Sebastian Moran fic for Sehrlock. because sometimes I love the monsters in love trope. Sometimes, I want to read about people so twisted and warped and not right, and yet how well they can fit together. It's sharp and smart and insightful, and oh. Gyzym can do wonderful things with characters, get right inside their heads and make you believe in them, flaws and all.

Summary:

A swimming pool, a desert, two, the ends of sentences, guns, a future in the cards and a tiger in the brush and no one ever tells you: antiheroes have more fun.

Second rec is a very long Thor/Loki AU that I've been reading over the past week. After Jotenheim attacks and Thor goes storming off, he ends up in an arranged political betrothal to Loki. Now, first of all, the worldbuilding of Joenheim is really wonderful here -- the culture and the nature of the realm of winter, the harshness and truth of her people, the different expectations -- but what I honestly love here is Loki. Loki who is still sly and clever and ambitious, who has his own plans but will go along with others' while it suits him; Loki who loves despite himself, whose own will is stronger than anything else, who loves deeply but can't help being cunning and jealous and having his fun at others' expense. I love that Loki is such an attractive character but not easy to love.

I also love that Thor is so easy to like but still needs to learn to see beyond his own assumptions, his own entitlements and privilege taken for granted, and even when he's wrong, you still like him. I love a story that can make a reader aware of the character's flaws and still love them all in all.

I'll also say it's a long story but the pacing is excellent. At no time did it feel like it dragged or started to become pointless. (For a story this long, that's an incredible feat.)

Summary:

When Thor went storming into Jotunheim he was looking to start a fight, but accidently winds up a pawn in Odin and Laufey's plans for a permanent peace between the realms; namely, in exchange for the return of the Casket of Ancient Winters, Laufey is offering his firstborn child Loki, the Aesir-sized sorcerer, in marriage to Thor. Such a momentous decision is not to be taken lightly, so Odin sends Thor to live on Jotunheim - without Mjolnir - for a season with Loki, to get to know his prospective consort and to teach the wilful prince some diplomatic sense. Thor is horrified, his parents are insistent and no-one really knows what Loki is thinking, but he hasn't stopped smiling...
Or, a jotun AU arranged marriage worldbuilding fic, featuring a confused Thor, a manipulative bastard Loki, Jotunheim politics, a slow burn developing relationship and a motley arrangement of characters from Marvel and myth.
