Recs for two stories I've enjoyed reading. First of all, an SGA AU rec. Something I loved so much about SGA and McShep was how well the characters could translate into other stories and other settings and still be *them*. For instance, a Pretty Woman fusion with John as a hooker? I can totally believe it here and enjoy all the happy feelings that come from this lovely story:
King of Wishful Thinking (19666 words) by margarks
Chapters: 9/9
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis

Relationships: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Characters: John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Elizabeth Weir, Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Pretty Woman Fusion
Summary:

Second rec is for a Mystrade fic that I enjoyed. (I'll also say that it might just be me, but the ending felt a little quick -- nonetheless, I really enjoyed the rest of this story, so I think others might too.) What I liked about it was how it took s4 canon and extrapolated from there: the idea of Mycroft and Lestrade previously being lovers (which wouldn't be mentioned in the show since John's our POV, but could be possible), a different background for Lestrade (which I wouldn't have considered, but I love how there's a few canonical details used to support it), and an internally logical extension of how Eurus could be a threat. I really enjoyed the internal logic of it, and how well it works with canon.

Summary:
Mycroft spent most of his life building his empire for one purpose; to keep Sherlock safe. But it wasn't enough, and with everything crumbling around him he makes a plan. It will work. He will be gone, Sherlock will be safe, and there will be minimal collateral damage.
Then Gregory Lestrade gets himself involved, and even that one last plan begins to unravel.
