I went to bed at 8pm and watched a couple episodes of Black Books. (Hee! The Cleaner episode! I love the that.) After lying in bed for the next two hours unable to sleep, I decided to watch West Wing, specifically SGTE,SGTJ and The Stackhouse Filibuster.

I love SGTE,SGTJ. I love Toby and the female cop, I love CJ and the mapmakers, I love that opening shot of Sam asleep on the couch and I love Leo's attempt to give the Big Block of Cheese Day speech. I also love Donna in that episode. However, I'd forgotten how much fun the Stackhouse Filibuster is.

I mean, I always remember it as the episode where Josh's new shoes cause him to slide and fall rather spectacularly, but I'd forgotten it's also the episode where Sam sneaks into Josh's staff meeting in search of a good piece of fruit and volunteers for a dodgy job because he has a grudge against having had to spend $30 at Kinko's (plus, Sam's nickname speech makes me snigger: "The GOA needs a little housekeeping and I'm the Housekeeper. ... That's a terrible nickname. I'm not going by that nickname anymore."). It's also the episode where Jed and Leo share a candlelit dinner for two, CJ shows her strong hold on the press and Donna proves how observant she is. Plus, I love the voiceovers from CJ, Josh and Sam, and the emails to their parents. I love the way that their voiceovers intertwine at the end, giving this very strong impression of the three as a team with similar goals and values. It's very nice.

Anyway, I fell asleep after that at about 12.30, and had some odd dreams. Not bad, just odd.

First of all I dreamed that Mum had returned to Melbourne and had just gone for a job interview. She was sitting on my bed, telling me about it and opened up my curtains. Then, I got up to make us both a hot drink. That was the entirety of that dream. The thing that made it odd was that it was so vivid, and I woke up wondering if Mum was awake yet. It took me a second to realise that actually, that may have been a dream.

The second one was intriguing. Possibly, you need a bit of backstory as to why I was intrigued by it. I used to have a lot of dreams of running. I used to climb out of my window (not for any bad reason, just because I could), and run along the fences, Ranma-style. I also used to run around the streets, parks, school grounds and the edges of suburbs (and in some dreams, I'd run fast enough that I'd start flying, but I haven't had those dreams in ages). What was always a given, was that I was never frightened when I was running away, I never knew where I was running to, but I always really enjoyed it.

So, the dream. I dreamt of Sam and Josh. Basically, CJ, Toby and everyone else was leaving the West Wing for the night and she asked Josh if he was coming. Josh looked over at Sam in his office (twirling round on his chair) and says no. The next scene is the two them in the deserted bullpen, both swinging around on chairs, and challenging each other to chair race. Josh suggests going twice around the building and meeting back there, and Sam says that it needs to be a shorter race, because he has to go to the bathroom. So, Josh suggests a race to the bathroom, and Sam says okay. Josh says the ready-set-go, and Sam cheats by springing out of his chair, running through the doorway, and then pulling himself up onto the top of the bullpen.

(Now, I'm blaming this bit on recently seeing PoTC. Apparently, to my dream mind, the bullpen is a very large room, with foot wide wooden beams running across the top, about a yard apart. This level is obviously low enough for two kinda unfit guys to easily pull themselve up (although, come to think of it, I think they jumped on a chair, then up a desk, and then pulled themselves up) and yet seems to bypass the corridors of the White House.)

Anyway, Josh quickly follows, and their both leaping/running across these beams, racing each other and having a hell of a lot of fun. Due to Sam cheating, he's consistently about three foot in front of Josh. They run and then go left, and get told off by a security gaurd on the ground, but they keep going, even though they're running over rooms that actually have staff in them now.
They get to the bathrooms, and there's a small crowd of staff watching them as they climb down. Sam declares himself the winner, and laughing, goes into the bathroom with the pink door. Josh follows him, and pulls him back out, pointing to the "Women's" sign on the door as he does. The crowd outside are laughing at them, and Josh and Sam are laughing too.

Then, my alarm goes off and I wonder what in the world made my subconscious think of that. Odd, but I can still remember the thrill of running, the pure joy of it that I always used to get in my dreams. It's a good way to wake up, so I decided to post it before I forget. Now, I'm going to have to dash into the shower, unless I want to run all the way to the station. And, trust me, I have never got that thrill out of running in real life. *g*
