out_there | Quick rec on a late lunch break...

One of the reasons that I'm so tired today is that when I went to bed at 1am last night, I found my tape of Sunday's Hornblower and thought that I'd just watch ten minutes before I went to sleep. A little over an hour later, I finally turned the TV off. *g*

I love the Retribution episode. Y'know, I enjoy Retribution more than the one before it, and considering that the one before it features a naked Horatio bathing in public, that's quite a statement! I adore Archie in it, and I've decided to just ignore canon and follow Calypso's series and believe that Archie's still alive somewhere.

Really I love the way that Archie dies, and I love the interaction within the rest of the episode. No matter how many times I watch the little hot-shot canon exploding scene, it always makes me smile. ("I believe it's called the coefficient of expansion, sir.") There is something that I find very amusing about a slightly pissy Horatio, who really can be an overachiever at times who doesn't have much of a sense of humour about himself, or accept his own failings easily. It's why Archie's perfect for him; he lightens Horatio's mood and supports Horatio when it's important.

This post was technically to rec Calypso's fics. All of them. I wasn't going to wax lyrical about the charms of Hornblower (and even the title sounds smutty, so how could I resist it?). All of her fics are great. An especially big rec for Ransom which is a long, involved fic, with a little bit of h/c, and a good deal of adventure, and it's sequel En Route which is seriously hot. (Nice to know that sex-in-carriages was the prequel to sex-in-cars... *g*)

Seriously, if you want good Hornblower fic (and smut) check her stuff out.
