Makes a lot of sense to me. My folks did something similar--Dad was always at the bar with his friends, drove my mom nuts, but I think they would have divorced five years earlier if he hadn't done that.
(Their 30th anniversary would have been last week. It amazes me. They've now been divorced almost exactly as long as they were married.)
