Loving this! As someone who generally reads fic with two characters (or sometimes only one), I completely understand why you'd rather not deal with the whole team. Particularly in a short fic. Hell, half the time the series writers can't be bothered to write for the whole team.

*snods* It's the trick of balancing them, and still saying something about the characters. I don't know how possible it is. Meanwhile, it's not like I want to say anything vital in the teamfic, I just wanted to write Owen complaining. (Yes, he's a pratt, but he's an amusing pratt. I actually like Owen, partly because he's so unapologetically unlikeable.)

In a few short paragraphs you've explained so very much that makes no sense in the show and gotten well into Ianto. And after that first sentence, I'm curious to see how Captain Jack comes back into this.

Captain Jack will be the one to open the front door. And flirt with Ianto. And take him out for coffee.

*looks back over those sentences*

You know, seriously, that is the plot for this story. It just seems a lot less... ridiculous when it's interspersed with dialogue between the two of them (because first impressions? Ianto would be focusing strongly on not giving much away while giving the impression of being honest, and Jack's main concern would be getting to know the newest member of his team. As far as Jack's concerned, I don't think he wants perfect employees -- he likes flawed ones, as long as he knows what the flaws are and how he has to look out for them).

Not to say that gen teamfic isn't interesting, but I'm always going to vote for more Ianto and less Owen.

Hee. Fair 'nough.

I just watched Doomsday and The Runaway Bride this weekend, so I'm feeling the Doctor Who angst at the moment. But you're right, it's not emo in a dark way, and it's more about wonder and joy and other cheesiness that makes my friends mock me for loving it. Weird that between Doctor Who and Torchwood, it's the one with decent scripts and without gratuitous sex that's the guilty pleasure.

Hee. I still haven't seen teh Runaway Bride but I'm guessing it'll be angst-o-rama.
