OMG. Okay, if each episode was a pastry, Meat would be a really delicious cupcake with big chocolate chips of awesome adn an awesome compote baked into the top.

Clearly, the subtitle for TW S2 is "How Awesome Is Ianto Jones? So Awesome. So Totally Awesome."

I watched it last night. And, and, and-- so good! Ianto being snarky (favourite wisecrack had to be the "we could release a single" -- Bwah!). Jack flirting shamelessly. Rhys being all-around wonderful -- standing up to Jack, so damn cool; fighting with Gwen so painfully real and also funny, because real people fight just like that, jumping to conclusions and screaming and being nasty -- and getting my second-favourite line of the epiosde re: Gwen "just wish she was uglier". (First time I watched it, I thought he said "[Jack] just wished she was into him" but the uglier line is even better).

Tosh's crush on Owen is still alive and kicking,a nd Owen was fun (and showed a bit of his doctorly efficiency and caring in this ep, too) and I loved his description to Rhys and his happy little grin at the end. Thinking of hasppy little grin, huge points for Ianto's happy little smile when Tosh mentions that the rest of them are sad and single. I have huge love for that whole scene, really, Jack stalking around in the background, watching them, and Ianto being aware he's watching, and ... oh, it's just full of the secret fun and excitement of an office-crush. So delightful.

*takes a breath* And the incredibly cool thing of the ep gets it's own paragraph: Ianto. Being all deadly efficient with a gun. The whole "pray they survive" line (or whatever it was) was chilling and wonderful and perfect. (Admittedly, I also loved him being caught sneaking in by the first guy and his cheery little, "Oh, I've got something for you" and then getting him with the stun gun. That was also made of win.)

I also loved proof that Ianto has a fairly tough stomach when it comes to food (biting intot he meat pizza while others picked the processed meat off it). That happened in Countrycide, too: Tosh pointed out that a friend of hers caught a disease eating a side-of-the-road burger joint; Jack pulls a face and wraps his back up but Ianto continues eating his happily.

I want to mention the similarities to Countrycide. The way that both made me consider vegetarianism, the way that both had really awful and creepy ideas at their core -- yet both had fantastic character dynamics and development -- and both had "ordinary" humans as the real villians of the piece. Both feature Gwen's need to confide, to connect. After all, it was Gwen's inability to tell Rhys about the stuff she sees that led her to the affair with Owen. And both had Ianto-in-danger-as hostage (which is a pretty damn cool thing, as long as he's rescued... and show that he is capable of thinking while in danger -- headbutt in Countrycide, the pulling at the ropes in Meat).

I know there were thinky-thoughts that I had about this episode, but I can't remember them now. It's all washed away in a sea of awesome sauce.
