May. 3rd, 2003 04:02 pmSo, I'm finally out of bed, and decided to go online. Saw X-Men2 last night, which was wonderful, and I'll ramble on more about it later. Got McDonald's beforehand (I was following a theme - I had the Ragin' Cajun burger. *g*)
Anyway, got out of the film, it was a bit past 9pm, and still felt really awake from it. So, I decided I'd go out. Got all the way to South Yarra, and couldn't find the little disco I was looking for (It was a funky place I went to with friends ages ago). Walked all the way up and down Commercial Road (and that's a long street), then grabed an OJ at Diva, and decided that I couldn't be stuffed going out after all.
So I got a taxi to the station, came home and watched this week's Angel. And went to bed very happy. *g*

During a comment a while ago,
baggers mentioned that a lot of her crushes on guys were non-sexual. That idea's been going round my head for a little while. It describes my feelings about the SV characters, really. Even Lex, who I'm fond of, and most frequently sqeal over, I wouldn't actually want to sleep with. I think he's hot and all, but I'm not actually personally interested. (Heck, the only SV character that made me go, "Take me now" was Red!Clark.)
And when it comes to AtS and BtVS, as hot as I think most of the characters are, Tara and Giles are the only ones I'd actually sleep with. I still drool over Cordy, Wes, Faith (when she's around), and Spike (occasionally) but I couldn't imagine myself actually sleeping with them.
When I think about it, there are very few characters that I could actually see myself with. I may simply adore them for who they are, but the appeal is far more impersonal. I'm wondering if other fans find this is true too...?

Why I loved X-Men 2:
- Tiny nods to canon (such as having Gambit's name appear on Stryker's list of mutant criminals) and small cameo roles for known characters (Colossus, Kitty/Shadowcat, Beast/Hank McCoy... I'm wondering if the girl who screamed is Banshee's daughter, Siren. If I'd heard a Scottish accent I'd be sure.)
- Making the girls so darn hot. Rogue, Jean, Yuriko, etc.
- Making Cyclops rather likeable and making the Jean/Scott relationship understandable and appealing.
- Recognising Prof X's strong powers and making him a very admirable character
- Making Magneto so wonderfully charismatic, showing us just why he can inspire other mutants to follow him.
- Lovely understated moments between Magneto and Prof Xavier, that made me certain they had a Past.
- Being so true to canon, at least as far as characterisation was concerned. Nightcrawler's faith was strong enough to feel; Bobby was macho, postering, and a bit foolish; Logan was a dangerous loner, who still pitched in when needed; Cyclops was the goody-two-shoes leader; Jean showed the strength and wisdom she always had; Storm was noble and vulnerable; Magneto was wonderful. Hell, even Rogue showed a bit more of Rogue's actual personality (as opposed to the freaky mix of Rogue/Kitty/Jubilee that she was in the last film). Basically, everyone was pretty well-rounded and convincing.
- Really good Special Effects and great action scenes that got my heart pumping.
- A good use of humour.
- Making Yuriko so hot. I forgive you for skipping her backstory, and I'm not even too sure she was a mutant, but she made sense in the context, and was pretty and deadly. (Even if you didn't once use the phrase "Lady Deathstryke" - although that could have been a password or something that I didn't notice)
- Lovely foreshadowing of the Pheonix (actually mentioned as "Pheonix effects" in the credits, so I know I'm right). So, what's the bet that X3 will be the Pheonix saga. X4 may even be the Dark Pheonix arc. Man, I love both of those story arcs, so I couldn't be any happier.
Basically, I saw it by myself and loved every minute of it, even if I spent the last forty minutes wishing I hadn't drunk so much coke during the film. And, if work decides to have the social night next week (it was postponed this week) I will be so happy to watch it again.

Date: 2003-05-04 06:25 pm (UTC)I'm only reading this now because I didn't want to spoil myself but maybe I should of read it before I went. I don't know anything about the xmen comics so a lot of stuff probably passed me by without me noticing. Maybe I should go watch it again...just for the things I missed the first time.

Date: 2003-05-04 06:31 pm (UTC)I want to see it again. There was actually a lot of detail wrapped up in a really good action film, so I'd enjoy a second look.
I'm not a huge comics buff (only collected them for about a year, and then dropped out of it during the whole Onslaught debacle - too pricey to keep collecting... *grimace*) but I do know the cartoon pretty well (Uncanny Xmen - not the evolution cartoon) so I was sniggering in glee at all the fannish references. Like when Wolvie said "Bub", which is such a trademark phrase of his...
