Drive by rec: Daycare 'Verse (XMFC AU, Erik/Charles)

Over the last week, I've been working my way through Pocky_slash's Daycare 'Verse. Sometimes, when canon gives me a bitter, hopelessly torn apart by politics Erik/Charles, all I want to read is something normal and sweet and domestic. Modern AU, still have powers, but here we have Erik as an engineer (not a serial killer as Moira keeps suggesting) and Charles running a daycare centre for mutants (with a lovely rant about mutant integrated education and his political reasons for running a daycare). It's cute and sweet and there's a lot of little moments that just worked for me (especially Erik's attitudes towards socialising and dealing with other people, namely that if you don't bother other people, they'll probably still bother you but at least that way you can prove they started it. If I find the exact quote, I'll add it because it made me giggle).

So, yes, I'm going to rec the first story and say that it's surprisingly easy to hit kudos and click ont eh next one, and then suddenly realise you've been reading this AU for days. *g* (But they're mostly little separate stories too, so it's not like you get trapped midway through a huge story either.)

The series I seem to keep going back to is Yahtzee's Anarchy in the UK series. If you haven't read it, its a modern day non-powered Charles as the Prince of Wales AU of awesomeness. Though its quite long, and unlike the Daycare verse, its one epic length main fic with a couple of shorter follow ups.

It's got everything I look for in the fic, epic length, fantastic characterisation, romance, sneaking around avoiding paparazzis, drama.

Its basically the Drastically Redefining Protocol (Merlin) of the XMFC fandom. :D

I don't know if I've read the follow up stories to that, but I definitely read the first. Strangely enough, I always remember it as the story where Charles has corgis that he makes sure he feeds himself (because they're still animals and if staff fed them, they wouldn't be his dogs for too long).
