Back home...
Jun. 9th, 2003 04:03 pmI'm back from Canberra. Slightly odd to come back to Melbourne and think of it as home. Canberra's still very familiar; I grew up there, my family lives there, but it's not home any more.
I spent the weekend with family, talking, drinking and watching them smoke. I feel just a little out of the loop being the only non-smoker out of the four of us. It's not as if I have anything against cigarettes or dope, it's just a little strange that I've never been interested in trying either.
I'm exhausted but I had a wonderful time. Was great to see family again. As much as I miss them, I forget how much effort it is to be around them. Living alone, you get used to the ease of living. No one to ask about watching a particular movie or show, no one who wants to talk when you just want to sit and veg, no one who needs to talk about the details of their last break up. (I sound cynical and nasty, but I'm really not. I just forgot about the emotional demands of being close to people...)
On the good side, Mum gave me a really funky peachy borwn lipstick which is just perfect. You know how sometimes you want a particular shade but they all make you look washed out or sallow? And then someone gives you the perfect shade that looks just right? That's what happened. *g*
Also, got to watch Animatrix. Dude, that rocked. Each story makes you think, and some are more uncomfortable than others, but they all work really well. My faves are 4 (great ending), 1 (because strip swordfighting should be an olympic sport *g*) and 8 (because I like the old fashioned feel of a 40's detective story). Wouldn't watch it with little kids, but highly enjoyable to watch.
Okay, I'm off to catch up on email and LJ.
