Sep. 29th, 2003 09:54 amOkay, I'm back at work. Had a good weekend, and saw PoTc for the third time. (Heh. That's officially a record for me. First time I've ever seen a film in the cinema three times. Doubt I'll go again.) I have random thoughts, but they can basically be divided into Dreams, Films, and the MTV Music Awards.
Dreams:
I've been having strange dreams lately. A few days ago I dreamt I met
celli. Not in a practical way, say at a convention or something, but getting off at my station. As it turned out, her car was parked behind mine, and I recognised her and we started talking. That was it.
It's odd because I've never even seen a picture of Celli (although, Dream!Celli has light brown hair in a short and cute bob) and considering she doesn't live in Australia, I think it's doubtful that I'd meet her coming out of a suburban Melbourne station.
Also had an odd dream on Saturday night. I was part of an all-girl singing group and had trouble working out my outfit. Then, we were singing in front of a huge audience as part of a big concert. The end song was sung by all the groups, which included Lance and Joey (what's bugging me is that I don't know why it was those two, or what the other three were doing... *g*).
Then, I ended up taking a pretty blonde girl back to my room, and found out in the morning that she used to be a guy. It's just a strange thing to pop up in my subconscious. *shruggs* On the other hand, she was a very good kisser, so I'm not complaining.
Films:
Saw Gangs of New York and The Hours. First off, Gangs... was too long, too slow and too gory. I mean, the acting was good, the characters were convincing but the film itself just wasn't very satisfying. It was a bit of an effort to watch it to the end, and there didn't seem to be any point. If the moral was "Violence begets violence", I knew that already. Likewise that the only way to combine warring groups is with a common enemy. (Heh. I've watched enough StarTrek to know both of those already.)
The Hours was excellent. A bit depressing, but wonderful, none the less. And, if someone had mentioned that I'd get to see Meryl Streep kissing Alison Janney, I would have borrowed it sooner. *g* Such a good film, filled with great actresses (and actors) and it made us stop and think through it. Really loved it.
MTV Video Music Awards
- I think this is proof that I'm turning into an old woman prematurely. Spent most of it thinking the fashions these days are ugly and why are all the female singers wearing next to nothing.
- That was the kiss? Good grief. So much fuss about such a staged, superficial thing. Then again, it's Madonna. She's based a musical career on her shows being sexual and shocking, so I shouldn't have been surprised.
- I'm gratified that Mum thought that Hilary duff was about 26. Makes me feel less guilty about my not so secret lust for the 15-going-on-16 year old.
- As annoying as I still find "Cry Me a River" to be, I was happy to see Justin Timberlake win the awards. This has nothing to do with him personally, and everything to do with his lovely suit-shirt-tie combo. *raowr* Very nice, honey. (However, the guy sitting next to him in the pastel pink and violet shirt and suspenders? *shakes head* Not a good look.)
And now, I need to get some work done.
