It's Monday morning. It's Monday, and the boss will be back, and I did nothing Friday (okay, I wrote 2500 words of fic, but y'know, didn't do anything work related). Yeah, I know it's all my own fault, it's just... Monday.

Also, had one of those dreams where you dream you wake up, and then you really do and you realise that this makes more sense, since you don't *usually* go treasure hunting in caves...

Still, my new RPS OTP is Ben-gay. *g*

A girl on the train was wearing some mouthwatering sweet perfume. It smelled like candy.

Of course, now I have "Sex and Candy" (by Marcy's Playground) running through my head...

[livejournal.com profile] harriet_spy wrote an interesting article on how fandom shapes how writers write.

I think that she does have a point. It's very easily to take fanon for granted, to write a fic relying on the people reading it already knowing certain unstated facts. After a while, it becomes almost second nature to assume that everyone knows that x does this, or that x and y are Meant To Be, or Obviously Shagging.

I'm wondering if this is part of the reason I like the fics I like. I *like* first time fics. I like the build-up, I like the work that goes into making it believable that x would sleep with y. But, more than that, it made me think about why I'm so head-over-heels in love with Sports Night fandom. (Because I am. I really, really am. I'd even say I'm more ensorcelled by SN fandom than I was by SV, and that's saying something. Interestingly enough, they're both OTP fandoms.)

Oh my god. I really can make anything All About Sports Night. I don't know whether to be impressed at my BS abilities, or kinda concerned about my level of obsession. )

ETA: Do you all remember my Teamwork Josh/Sam icon? ("My fandom believes in teamwork") That the cap being used this week for [livejournal.com profile] wwcontest. I don't know whether I should just submit the old icon, or try to revamp it (We can rebuild it. We have the technology.). Either way, I'm mightily amused.

Things Dan and Casey thought *you* should know:

Casey's birthday is the 5th September (as pointed out by a couple of helpful fans). Somebody shoot me if I end up celebrating it. (Hey, it's a Sunday. I could have a fannish gathering, complete with chocolate cake...)

If editing porn at work, don't leave it on the screen when you dash off to do photocopying. Just don't.

It means that you put pages down at the photocopier, and then have to do a very quick and *casual* walk back to your desk to save it and minimise the screen. (...not that I'd know from personal experience or anything... *clears throat*)

In that vein of reasoning, I just posted The Magical Powers of a New Shirt, which is CaseyDan smut and snark.

(Hmmm... CaseyDan. It's a fun word to say and it always makes me smile. I know it's not really an abbreviation, but... say it aloud five times and I'm sure you'll grin too.)

You know, my smut writing's improved. *wonders* I mean, I wrote this a long while ago, and I think my stuff since then has got a bit better (and I've lost a bit of the "Dan did... Casey did... Dan did..." rhythm that I'd got down to a fine art in this fic).

When I first wrote smut, it was a SV drabble, and [livejournal.com profile] tboy was highly encouraging and bet that within a year, I'd be writing a lot of smutty fic. Hmmm... I think that was about nine months ago, and at least a third of the fic I've written over the last two months has included sex scenes.

Go me.
