Vid Recs: Kingsman, XMFC, Multi
Jan. 22nd, 2016 11:40 amSo, vids. I don't honestly watch a lot of them but this post is half to share teh goodies I've been loving lately and half a reminder to self to download these when I get home because there's a certain point where I've watched a vid multiple times and I realise I want to possess a copy of my own. (And love it and hug it and call it George.)
The first is Kingsman, Harry/Eggsy, and courtesy of
misbegotten's rec: Lock Me Up. The song is a great choice and the cutting really works for me. I love a good strong cut on the beat, but too many cuts or too fast jerks me right out of a vid. Likewise, zooms can be misused, but I love the use of the clips here. The focus on their little faces! The drawing attention to their hands (mmmm!).
I liked the timing of visuals with lyrics, Eggsy yelling on "stop" made me smirk but the flashes to Eggsy in a suit when the lyrics talk about wanting to be something more.
Yes, it's the kid of vid that makes Kingsman look like a romance movie between Harry and Eggsy and I have no problem with that whatsoever.
The second is older but new-to-me, X-Men First Class, Charles/Erik: Perfect Drug. There's a good chance everyone else has already seen it but I've been loving it for the last few days. It's so perfect for Erik -- dark, industrial sound, intense and sharply focussed -- and I really love the construction of the verses. How the first verse is so completely dominated by Shaw and shifts to revenge, how the second verse revolves around Charles and those visual comparison moments between Charles and Shaw, Erik straining his powers to do more, the gun to Erik's head, the coin and bullet in his hand. It's not a happy ending vid but it's got such an emotional punch that feels so true for them.
The third vid is much lighter, because it's needed after that. Express Yourself is multifandom with dorky dancing. It's fun, it makes you want to dance along, and I dare you to watch it and not find yourself smiling along and doing a little chair-dancing.
