Homcide. Lance. Song.

Oooh, LJ looks different. Very funky. Laid-back, almost.
Coming to work this morning I had the internal chant of “Homicide – Lance - Song” so that I wouldn’t forget what I wanted to post this morning.
Homicicde
Saw the presentation on Homicide: Life on the Street last night and was highly impressed. Great shots, lovely scenes, dialogue that feels very true and natural. I just need to keep reminding myself:
1. I don’t really like cop shows. Crossing Jordan is the closest I come and that’s for the quirky characters more than anything else. Hence, even if it’s a character-driven cop show, I’m probably going to tire of it quickly.
2. I’m not reading fic for a show I haven’t seen. I’m not.
3. If I’m going to catch up on a TV series that’s no longer showing, I should concentrate on Farscape. Less hassle to get my hands on and I know I already love the characters. (Although, since seeing Frank Pembleton, if that’s right, lying around reading and listening to Lou Reed I’m already fond of him.)
4. It’ll break my heart. I’ll love it and then it will take my still-beating heart out of my chest and pulverise it. I’ve been warned. I don’t need a fandom like that.
Lance
Was slightly surprised that while watching Zoolander, I had a moment of going “Hey, that’s Lance”. I double checked the credits and realised I was right. Okay, I need to back away from popslash now if that’s how quickly it sinks into your consciousness.
Song
Talking to mum this morning, we were discussing personal theme songs. (Don’t ask how we got on to that. I have no idea.) Basically, I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’ve realised what mine is. It’s Billy Joel’s “My Life”. It’s a lot like me, cheery, basically upbeat and lots of fun to sing along to. Plus, it’s pretty much my attitude to life. Live and let live. You can live how you want, as long as you back off and let me live the way I want. You can do what you want, but I don’t have to be a part of it.
I feel oddly satisfied. *g*
So, I’d like to know your theme songs. Think about it, and leave a message in the comments, or post to LJ and tell me your theme song. (Mum’s was “(I did it) My Way” which does suit her well.) If possible, leave a link to the lyrics, too.
Well, that’s my attempt of starting a meme, let’s see if it works.

Theme song
Date: 2003-09-04 08:52 pm (UTC)All right, I've narrowed it down to two. Heinz Rudolf Kunze, "Vertriebener (http://www.heinzrudolfkunze.de/musik/songs/vertriebener.html)" (don't bother clicking on the link; it's German ;-) and Dar Williams, "Playing to the Firmament (http://www.musicsonglyrics.com/D/Dar%20Williams/Dar%20Williams%20-%20Playing%20To%20The%20Firmament%20lyrics.htm)."
I love "My Life," though. Great song.

Date: 2003-09-04 09:45 pm (UTC)I'd never heard of that song before. I've got to say that it does sound like the more idealistic side of you.
Re: Theme song
Date: 2003-09-04 10:36 pm (UTC)I could have picked so many more, though, like this (http://home.intranet.org/~jenniedo/sotw/missing.html) in an angsty moment, or this (http://home.intranet.org/~jenniedo/sotw/thunderandrainbows.html) in a philosophical one. :-)
And actually, come to think of it, Colin Hay's "Wayfaring Sons" (couldn't find a lyric link, dammit) has a lot of the same sentiment as the German song I linked to earlier.
Okay, I'll stop now. *grinning*

Date: 2003-09-04 09:19 pm (UTC)Theme song? I'd have to go with "Dumb Things" by Paul Kelly *g*.

Um... Not that you're dumb. Just that I could imagine you doing stuff because you wanted to learn for yourself, and not listening to everyone's "good" advice.
No offense meant Erilyn. Really.

Or "Creep". Not quite so boppy, but also rather fitting.

Date: 2003-09-05 12:08 am (UTC)I like them both, but I'm not nutty/outspoken enough for them to suit me. You, on the other hand... *winks*
"I don't care if it hurts,
I wanna have control.
I want the perfect body,
And the perfect soul.
I want you to notice when I'm not around..."

Date: 2003-09-05 04:26 am (UTC)You've got me so confused and there's a word I could use
But I'm afraid to say them.
I feel I've been had and i'm boiling mad
Still I can't live without you.
You don't have the time and you won't spend a dime
Not even to call me.
You don't know I exist and I wouldn't be missed
If I had the nerve to quit you.

Date: 2003-09-06 04:53 am (UTC)It's good to have music for certain moods. I can always tell when I'm really tired in the morning and don't want to go to work. It's when I blare 80s tunes!
