This is why my brother's been in such cheery moods while he's been up here. It doesn't matter that you didn't get to sleep until 1am when you're sleeping in to 10 or 11. I'm so glad that I took today off as annual leave. (We didn't get home until about 1am, so it was a really good idea.)

as for the concert, I had a fabulous time! Some of the highlights were:

- Costume changes. Poor Weird Al must have changed outfits at least ten times, maybe fifteen. It was like watchingt he celebrity fashion mistakes of the last twenty years. (Personally, my love goes to the square suit, a great take-off of those huge square shoulder pads worn in the late eighties.)

- The fact that Weird Al changed the lyrics on one of his songs. If you want to marry your cousin and have kids with eleven toes, you don't need to move to Alabama. You need to move to Tasmania, where that kind of thing is tolerated. The audience loved that little Aussie reference.

- The concert was held at the Palais theatre in St Kilda, which is an old theatre but really interesting (and overdone) inside. It's also next to Luna Park, which is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, which was shut and empty last night (I have no clue if it's just that it doesn't open on Thursday nights, or it only opens on weeknights during the height of summer). Part of Weird Al's opening comments were:
"When I was talking to my manager about doing this tour, I said, if it's possible, I'd like to be able to do one of the shows in a really old theatre besidea creepy old amusement park. Sometimes dreams really do come true."

- He went through many of his old favourites as well as the new songs. I was not the only person singing along. *g* It was most noticeable in the two Star Wars parodies, as you could hear people singing in the quiet bit of"My, my this here Anakin guy..." and he got the audience to sing some of the chorus to "Yoda". It was also noticeable in "Smells Like Nirvana", which was just highly amusing (The lyrics are about how hard the lyrics are to remember, and Weird Al just stops in the middle of a verse, and you could hear that the audience knew all the lyrics. Weird Al actually looked a bit surprised. *g*)

- Weird Al TV. During the concert, they screened some stuff on the big screens above the stage (mainly to give Weird Al time to change). At the start it was just random bit from old 50s horror films (and a clip of the Brady Bunch and the Teletubbies! Hee!) but during the show it was also clips of Weird Al's appearance in shows and award ceremonies. Hence, I got to see him on the Simpsons, even though I missed that episode.

- Weird Al TV's interviews. This gets it own point because I loved them so much. Mocking Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, Eminem, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, all very good things. He just did the Glasshouse thing of taking interview footage with them, and then asking different questions, but it was funny. It was also amusing that it sounded like both Enimem and Justin were attracted to Weird Al (mind you, there was also reference to him having slept with Celine, and Avril agreed to strip and give him her clothes.*g*). Still, I'd love to know where the original footage of Justin saying "They're big, they're really big" (Justin ansering questions about Britney), "Oh, it's big" (Justin answering questions about himself) and "Like a Lifesaver pack" (Justin answering a question about Lance) came from.

I had a great time. And now, I'm going to wander over to the couch and watch videos.

:D You've made me love Weird Al even more, and I didn't even go. :P He personalised it! Bless his little heart. I'd've probably sung over it with the original version and not even noticed, but it's a nice little touch. :)

One question though: Did he sing 'Amish Paridise'? That song holds a very special place in my heart... (*sigh*)

Yep! Not only did he sing it, he was dressed up (Amish hat, beard & black suit, white shirt) as was the rest of the band. Dude, Amish band!

They also had the footage of the Amish choir singing (during the choral bits) played of the screens behind him.
