You know, I'm finding it hard to imagine anyone less likely to do any actual work than me this afternoon. I mean, seriously. When I'm actually doing some quick editing on last night's smut, while sitting at my computer, I am bored.
Meanwhile, the present tense continues to be my sneaky nemesis. I write a fic in past tense, and it slithers its way into the middle of smutty paragraphs. Not all of them, mind you. Just a few paragraphs. Then it lies low, waits for me to grow comfortable in past tense protection, before striking again. It's like lightning. Never strikes the same place twice.
And Lex is staring at me, holding his Chrissy gift. *bg* You have no idea how much a Lex can brighten up a dulled stacked desk.

Date: 2003-12-22 06:33 am (UTC)Present tense is evil. Once it's managed to sink its teeth into you, it won't let go.
(Of course, when I'm writing something that's not fic, my tenses wander all over the place... and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Frelling grammar.)

Date: 2003-12-22 01:56 pm (UTC)The number of SV fics that are along the lines of "Lex walks around the room, running his hand along the cue stick as he considers his next shot..." (for example) are mindboggling.
After being in that fandom for... well, 2-3 years now, present tense keeps attacking. You're right. It's truly Eeeeeevil!
