The Ancient Records website *rocks*. I've spent the last hour browsing through, an decided that I really wanna buy:
-
deadspiders's "Enraged Mime"
Enraged Mime is not, in fact, an album of silence. If anything, an enraged mime would scream at the top of his lungs in rebellion. You could call the songs by Dead Spiders, a trio from Melbourne, the musical equivalent. It's loud, brazen rock with a hint of punk, especially on songs like "Standing on My Corner".
and
-
weredonut's "Pants"
In the early days of Ancient Records, it wasn't uncommon to find someone's pants hanging out to dry in our offices at three o'clock in the morning. Maybe that's why we love the new Weredonut album. Pants! is a collection of songs that find the absurd in the mundane. The title track is the story of dying in your apartment laundry room, there's one about escaping a date by the fire escape, and about shopping for grapefruit. Sometimes you forget rock and roll can be like this.

Date: 2004-01-25 11:32 pm (UTC)Well, at least my fictional record choices can be Aussie. I've spent years of having favourite groups (Everclear, Garbage, KD Lang, Beatles, Queen, Billie Holiday, Ani DiFranco) not being Aussie. Of course, since Ben Lee and Something For Kate are current favourites, and I'm listening to Triple J (alt/indie station), I can feel relatively patriotic today.
Heh.
You know, I just remembered it's Australia Day (hence, my long weekend). If there's ever a time to be musically patriotic, it's today. *g*
