Had to blow off a night with friends last night. Got a call from mum, who's going through a lot of stress with her new job . After two and half weeks, I think she's doing the right thing to quit. Seriously, she's fresh out of uni, with an English Lit major, RE submajor, and Drama and History minors.
In the informal interview, she was told that she'd have both a KLA leader and a mentor, and that she'd probably be teaching years 7-10... However, what she gets is a position teaching year 9, 10, 11 and 12 drama, with no mentor at the school, no KLA leader, and pretty much no guidance or support. How could any school expect a first year teacher to go out and teach VCE subjects? Let alone be the entire drama faculty for the school and organise both the budget and the school wide production/musical for the end of the year...
It sucks, the school sounds dodgy to me, and she's not being given information or support. Also, the school didn't go through the official interview processes, so it's likely that she's not even legally employed anyway. Hence, she has my full support to pull a sickie today, call up the education department, check out where she legally stands, and go in and resign on Monday.
I am so glad that my job's turned out to be a breeze in comparison. Helpful staff, and at the moment, I'm frequently overlooked, and left alone at my desk to secretly update LJ...
On a lighter note, I enjoyed Charmed last night, and I still can't help thinking that Julian McMahon looks like a grown up version of Kerr Smith. A season or two ago, when they had similar hairstyles, the resemblance was really obvious, and kinda freaky. *g*
Hey, it's a Clark and Lex speak French fic... Check out Livia's Total Immersion, 'cos it's hot, sweet and amusing. It's also a mid-S1 fic, which I like a lot. (Plus, Lex speaking French. *g*)
