Well, talking about Passion of Christ, I mentioned that if I wanted to watch a religious film this Easter, I'd probably try to track down Jesus, which starred Jeremy Sisto (Billy from SFU).

Mind you, I had to look up SFU on www.imdb.com to find his name and the name of the film. Of course, this also provided a link to Peter Krause's page... *g*

That was how I found out that he'd appeared briefly in Spin City as Casey McCall. The episode was Internal Affairs, aired February 9, 1999:

Peter Krause briefly crosses over as his character from SportsNight as the ending of this episode blends right into the beginning of Sports Night which at this time followed Spin City.

The scary thing is the amount of internet research time I put into to finding out this scrap of cool information. I even found a TV Crossover Guide. (An episode of Spin City ends with the TV showing Casey McCall on Sports Night.)

Man, there's a lot of TV crossovers. At the moment, I'm kinda thrilled/worried about:
Spin City's Michael Flaherty left New York (and the show) to go work in Washington and fight against Family Ties' Alex P. Keaton (note: both characters were played by Michael J Fox. This crossover was not shown on the air, but mentioned in a voice-over by Flaherty when he left).

Alex Keaton went to Washington? My first TV crush went to Washington? Dude, he'd be such a serious, snarky little Republican. *heads gets overwhelmed by thoughts*

Okay, someone hold me down. Stop me from writing Sam Seaborn/Alex Keaton. Stop me now.

ETA: As a environmental lobbyist in DC, Mike says that he met a conservative congressman named Alex P. Keaton. This was of course Michael J. Fox's character in Family Ties!

Dude, he's a congressman. I mean... *stops self from writing*

Hey. I've actually seen that Jesus movie with Sisto. It is so bad. No, no, it's worse than that. What can you say about a movie where Satan looks like David Bowie and the most memorable dialogue is "Mary! Stop staring at Jesus like that?"

It's Rob Lowe in "Atomic Train" bad.

And, yet, I remember enjoying it.

Hmmm... I have no reasonable explanation for why I enjoyed it. And I can't remember it enough to defend it at all. Literally, all I can remember is a couple of scenes when he was younger, and liking it overall.

Just 'cause it's awful doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable! I enjoyed the first half, too.

Heh. I'm a Smallville fan. I've had times in my viewing history of following charmed and Mutant X. I should know that quality isn't necessary for me to enjoy a show... *g*

(My first fandom was the original Battlestar Galactica.)

(Admits in one fell swoop to having terrible taste and to being really, really oooooold ...)

Things like that snippet of Casey in Spin City are why I'm having trouble reusing my Sports Night tapes even though I have the DVDs now. I have that snippet. And all the little publicity thingies, that there's probably a technical name for but I can't think of. And even their TV Guide award ceremony on the end of the last tape. I can't copy the bitses over, 'cos (a) the tapes are already copied to death and only just watchable and (b) um, we only have one video now ...

On the downside, the aired version of The Local Weather is missing the first 5-10ish minutes because of politics, and much of what's missing is Danny. So that, clearly, is baad.

More to the point: don't let guilt stop you writing! Lord. We'd never have any fanfic then. And no smut. Imagine. *Shudder*

Dude, how cool! We got SN screened here at... 3am on a weeknight. So, yeah, none of that cool stuff would have appeared on our screens anyway.

But, still, I have to ask. What's the last scene like? Is it just a shot of the Spin City people talking, and SN in the background? Or, is there any mention of the SN show?

More to the point: don't let guilt stop you writing! Lord. We'd never have any fanfic then. And no smut. Imagine. *Shudder*

It's not guilt so much as... no plot. No point to it other than the fact that I want to slash them. (And, this is not the first time it's occured to me. I thought of it... at least a year ago, but decided I had too little canonical knowledge of Alex, and what Alex did after the series, to write something that wouldn't conflict with canon. Now...? Not so much. It's *canon*.)

But... I'm starting uni this week. I have the first week's readings to do for two subjects; I have the last couple chapters of an admin course to finish; I have *got* to do some housework this weekend (the house is looking bad); I need to go shopping or I'll end up hungry; and next weekend is a SNathon, so I'll be watching, drinking and writing, meaning I need to get the study for next week done too.

Plus, I have about four fics promised to people for challenges... so if I'm going to write, I should try those. Not some pointless smutbunny I want to write just because I *heart* the guys so much.

And yet...? They're still snarking in my head.

It's never been screened in England at all, that's why I'm the Lone Fan. Getting tapes was ... interesting, and reliant entirely upon the kindness of strangers.

The Spin City clip is at the very end of the episode, post-credits, Mike and the red-haired woman whose name I can't remember but she was in the first few episodes of third season TWW have just had sex on the sofa, one of them reaches for the remote and switches on the TV and Sports Night comes up, with Casey talking. He says something about a hat trick. The woman - is her name Nikki? - asks, what's a hat trick? Mike says, it's when you score three times in a night. She reaches over to the back of the sofa, picks up a baseball cap that's hanging there, and puts it on his head, and he looks smug, at least, as far as I can tell through the tape quality or lack of. Then it segues right into Sports Night and Casey talking about Wayne Gresky, who's a real person, apparently.

I just typed all that without having to go and check the tape. I'm a sad, sad person and there is no hope for me.

Hope's over-rated. *g*

Thank you. I was highly curious about that. Now, I'm just trying to work out which AN ep started with a reference to Wayne Gresky.

Still, I think it's a seriously *cool* marketing tie-in. Heh. Me liking network exec's marketing ploys. Who'da thought?

I'm not sure about the SN episode either, 'cos the Gresky comment has nothing to do with the rest of it. Dan picks up the commentary, and the show moves along. It'd probably be quickest to cross-reference it by airdate, but that'll have to wait till I get home. Oooooooooor, when I get home, I could just put the discs in the DVD and hit 'play all' and work it out like that ...

According to the SN titles and airdates guide, the episode that aired on 9 February 1999 is Dana and the Deep Blue Sea.

Now I'm going to sit in the corner clearly labelled NERD. 'Bye!

Stop me from writing Sam Seaborn/Alex Keaton. Stop me now.

*blinks*

You know, I haven't gotten interested in any of the politician drama stuff, I don't watch West Wing... but...

*is curious to read Alex P. Keaton slash*

You're evil, you know that?

Who me? *looks innocent*

What can I say? I had a *big* TV crush on Alex Keaton. To the extent where seeing the occasional Family Ties repeat on TV still gives me a giddy little smile. He was so... cute. And earnest. And conservative, and clever, and snarky, and really sweet, and...

Yeah, I'll stop now.

Of course, on the other hand, there is a Family Ties slash fic out there somewhere. Alex and one of Mallory's boyfriends. Surprisingly enough, not the route I would have expected. I would have gone for a rift off one of the more slashier eps. Either that double ep where Alex is studying over in England (his roommate was rather... fetching *g*), or that therapy/internal monologue ep where he recounts his best friend getting dying in a car accident when he was younger.

Oh man. It's kinda frightening that I know that amount of Family Ties canon.

Here via [livejournal.com profile] melwil's f-list

The first couple of eps of Spin City post Michael J Fox that I watched, if I wasn't looking at the screen when Charlie Sheen was talking I was always certain that it was Martin Sheen and therefore Josiah Bartlet. Ever since I've wanted to write a silly little fic - probably set during "Posse Comitatus" where they go to the Mayor's office and there's some mixup over the similarity of the voices of the President and the Deputy Mayor. (He was Deputy, right? Or was he a chief of staff. Shows how much I watched Spin City.)

Yep, he was deputy mayor of NYC. Hee! Okay, now I'm amused by the similarities in voices...
