SN rec. Sorta.
May. 21st, 2004 11:12 amHuh. Knowledge, Like the Serpent by Kristophine is a fic that uses an extremely lyrical style but makes it work. I'm always... wary of the poetic styled fics.
I like my snark and I like my banter. I like my descriptions quick and sharp like a slap to the face. I like fics that are *easy* to read. (That probably shows in my writing.)
This one isn't simple and plain, but it is intriguing. The descriptions are highly evocative, and I can almost believe that Casey is that much of an inner-poet. The fic is very dreamlike, slow and vivid, and there are some phrases there that I just adore.

All three of those still have interesting descriptions, but use the boys banter far more.

It's the way it was shown on television, for the sake of fitting within a 20-minute timeslot and for visual impact. With fiction, you have time to explore the depths of the characters and their thoughts and motivations. An' that. But really, I like pretty much anything, as long as it's within the bounds of possibility character-wise, and more or less decently written. Some I like more than others, to be sure.
That's probably why I don't do recs. There are things that I could bounce up and down and say EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS, but how would that make the people feel I didn't say that about (now, that was a sentence!), and also everyone would email me back and say "Why?" and "No, we shouldn't".
Possibly I worry too much. I worry about running out of SN fanfic, just for a kickoff ...
Heh. That was wordy. No prizes for guessing where my sympathies lie.

Date: 2004-05-21 11:00 pm (UTC)Well, I'm always highly intrigued when people do stuff a new way. I mean, take the first SV five things fic for example. It started as one 'omg how original' fic and spread to all fandoms and all characters.
As for recs, if I really enjoy something, and feel like squeeing about it, I'll rec it. You might not like it, but... *shrugs* It's somehting I enjoyed, so I figured I'd point it out to my friends. If poeple like even half of what I rec, great. I don't expect people to necessarily share my taste, but most people check out my lJ becuase they have something in common with me, so it might be reading tastes...
