A fellow slasher watched it and said it was very bloody, despite being in black and white, but that the main character's urge to fight seemed to stem for his subtextual lust for his brother. (Um, no, I haven't seen it either.)
That, and it was all about the main character's downward spiral and self-destructiveness.
