mireille asked for text messages to stave off the terrible boredom, I sent her this:
Freckles
It’s the smattering of freckles on Dan’s neck that always does Casey in. Up to that point, he can argue against recklessness, against foolishness.
He can say practical things like “Not here” or “Not now” or occasionally, “Glass walls, Danny!” Sometimes they even work. More often, they don’t.
More often, Dan smirks - tilting his head so that Casey can’t help noticing those damn freckles - and Casey knows he lost the game before he started.
Luckily, Casey’s pretty good at dragging Dan to the supply closet these days.

Date: 2005-03-03 09:19 am (UTC)... owing to new flat screen taking some getting used to, eyes being very old, and brain not being quite up to speed yet (I like the 'yet'; it implies brain is ever going to be up to speed), I read the title as 'Feckless'. Hm.
