Since [livejournal.com profile] mireille asked for text messages to stave off the terrible boredom, I sent her this:

Freckles

It’s the smattering of freckles on Dan’s neck that always does Casey in. Up to that point, he can argue against recklessness, against foolishness.

He can say practical things like “Not here” or “Not now” or occasionally, “Glass walls, Danny!” Sometimes they even work. More often, they don’t.

More often, Dan smirks - tilting his head so that Casey can’t help noticing those damn freckles - and Casey knows he lost the game before he started.

Luckily, Casey’s pretty good at dragging Dan to the supply closet these days.

The little nod to the white dress shirt idea is cool.

It's sad/disturbing/amusing that I didn't actually get that reference for a moment. Then I had to look through the ficlet to see what you meant.

Sorkin-references have soaked into my brain, and are now indistinguishable from actual original thought.

Heh. I watched "Shoe Money Tonight" quite a few times when I was working on my "White Dress Shirt" story, so it's not surprising that I saw something related to SMT that you didn't even mean to include.

No, it's not just that. I was watching WW "The Leadership Breakfast" and noticed that the word Sam mistakes in front of Karen Cahill is "Kazahkstan".

In "Love, Sex and Homophobia" I gave Casey a particular fondness for saying the word Kazahkstan, and thought it was a totally random, original little idea.

I swear, every time I turn around, I'm finding more and more of my so called "creativity" is badly cribbed Sorkin things that I can't recall hearing.

I've had things like that happen. On the one hand, I feel like it's kind of cool to have incorporated Sorkin material automatically. On the other, it's frustrating not to be sure when an idea is new/my own. I mean, this is much more homage than anything close to plagiarism, but, still.
