Checking for other people's enthusiasm level (Choose Your Own Kinky Porn)

So, after talking about the Choose Your Own Kinky Porn idea, dzurlady pointed out that it could be done on a comm.

Of course, writing all these different bits of smut would be far too taxing for a lazy author (like me) to try, but if we did it as a group activity, it could be fun. I'm thinking SGA, probably Rodney/John (for mass popularity).

It would start by someone writing "Page 1", and leaving two prompts (to pages 2 and 3, I would assume). In the comments to that post, people could volunteer to write one of the prompts, and then they'd post it to the comm (with the "Page 3" in the subject line) and that snippet would lead to two more prompts. In this way, once the prompts were written, we could go back and link them from the original post, leading to our very own "Choose Your Own Kinky Porn" story.

It's an idea that would be possible -- but I'm a lazy, lazy fan and I'm not used to organising group things -- so I thought I'd quickly check everyone's interest level before I put too much real thought into it.

Having done one of these before, I thought I'd just mention casually that it is a hella lot of work keeping these things organised, chasing after the folks who've volunteered, inserting what they write and managaing all the new branches, finding new volunteers, and writing all the branches for the story that no one else does.

Which can be fun, but definitely more work than a "lazy lazy fn" might want to undertake. Just a friendly warning. :-)

Thanks, first of all, for the example. (Which I *know* I've spent a couple hours at the uni library tracing through, and backtracking, and reading all the seperate endings.)

Secondly, thanks for the warning. I think if I put it on an LJ comm, it will basically be self-sustaining. If someone doesn't write an option, there will still be one other option written by someone else, so fans can branch off from that and write it.

Also, I'm not planning on an "adventure" type story. I'm planning on a very basic PWP type story set in an established relationship (I expect), where you're literally choosing different porn scenarios.

But, hmmm. Yeah, it might be a lot of work to maintain. I'll think about it.

I said no because I don't know the fandom... but this is THE best idea I've seen, across ALL fandoms.

Imagine if the Harry Potter people cottoned onto this one. (Actually... come to think of it... I don't want to imagine it.)

I went with SGA because it's the biggest of the fandom's I'm personally involved in.

Also, someone else commented and linked to a much earlier "Choose Your Own Adventure" fic written in the StarWars universe (Obi Wan/Qui Gon). That's well worth the read -- and actually has plot.

I'm only declining because I don't know this fandom- although I know several people who do, I just haven't been bitten yet. I am very curious to see how it goesm, though, as this is a smashing idea.

It's a really cool idea (or so I think) but it's one of those "the more, the merrier" as far as the writing will go. However, I think I may have to put my money where my mouth is (metaphorically speaking) and actually try to run this.

There's a book (not very good) called "The Naughty Professor" that is CYOA porn. You can get it off Amazon, except you can't because you're in Australia and it's not worth buying anyway - I just needed it to round out my Weird Porn collection (I have pop-up books and connect the dots, too! *proud*)

Honestly, I'm a little scared by that. I mean, yes, pop-up books I get (and would probably find as sexy as most porn, read: not very, but rather funny) but connect-the-dots?
