Since I feel like all I've been doing is using my LJ to complain lately, I thought I'd share a guilty secret pleasure of mine: air-piano.

Those with rock-leanings will go for the air-guitar or the air-drums -- both of which have a certain cool-dorky flavour -- but I like the air-piano. The best thing is to do it when completely alone with an upbeat tune and pretend you're a piano maestro performing masterpieces with flair.

Yes. It's incredibly, incredibly dorky. Yet I do that while listening to Ben Lee's Close I've Come and it makes me unspeakably joyous. (If anyone out there is talented with air-guitar (acoustic) and air-drums, I'm perfectly willing to form an air-band just to play this song.)

This also leads me to my latest SGA Vid thought of John/Rodney to Close I've Come. I'll never make it but I'm going to plan it out anyway.

Close I've Come -- Lyrics

i slipped into a house,
to escape my enemies

I don't know if we have a shot of John running into a doorway for cover (we *should*), but if not, just a general running/firing sequence would be great.

and opened the door to another world

John's first trip through the stargate, where he asks Ford if it hurts (and Ford's "Hurts like hell, sir" accompanied with a huge grin is still one of my favourite Ford-moments).

of lovers and whores

Shot of Chaya. Shot of the girl stripping in The Tower.

but i loved you more
than any of them
and ever before

I'm thinking either shots from The Bortherhood or Inferno: something with John paying more attention to Rodney than to the hot girl.

look how close i've come
how close i've come,
how close i've come
how close i've come
how close i've come i'm far away

For the chorus, it would have to be shots of John and Rodney, either looking fondly at each other, or standing close -- like that shot in the jumper bay just before the oxygen left -- and for the last line, it would be John looking at Rodney from a distance, in the background of the shot.

the universe is brought back
from the
brink of destruction

Them fleeing in the jumper during the end of Trinity?

every time you smile

Joyous McKay smile. I mean, a great, big, beaming, I'm-so-much-smarter-than-everyone-ever-AND-I-get-to-play-with-all-the-cool-toys grin.

but i can see things clearer
its all smoke and mirrors

Shots of Home, of John seeing through the illusion and then contrast it with the mist-filled planet when "smoke" is sung.

yeah you broke my fucking heart but i
still want you

End of Trinity, and the elevator/apology sequence. Ending with that funny little (hopelessly besotted) smile of John's as the elevator doors close.

look how close i've come
how close i've come,
how close i've come
how close i've come
how close i've come i'm far away
look how close i've come i'm far away

There's actually a long musical break here, all fast-paced and building crescendos of pop-rock. I'd love to have shots of John flying, of big pretty images of the jumpers in space. Also action shots of running/shooting/fighting.

one can only guess
what would happen if
i got all my questions answered

I'm sure we could track down a suitable WTF face of John's for these lines. There's quite a few moments where Rodney's said something and John's pulled the funniest faces in response. That would work here.

then we'd know for sure
who's got the quickest draw

John pulling the gun on Kolya -- when Kolya's holding Elizabeth -- and then shooting.

who's laying dead

Rodney on the gateroom floor at the end of Hide & Seek, and John rushing over to him.

and who's above the law

Maybe a shot of Elizabeth telling both of them off. Or... something.

look how close i've come
how close i've come,
how close i've come
how close i've come
how close i've come i'm far away

I'm pretty good on the air drums, myself. Air drums and air-keyboards/piano, those are my imaginary instruments of choice.

Oh, I'm not *good* (as in, I barely catch the beat let alone get in the general direction of the notes), but I'm enthusiastic as all hell. That makes up for a lot. *g*

I have no sense of rhythm and no musical knowledge. On the other hand, I can make good I-am-really-into-the-music faces, and since it's air drumming, I can just claim it would have sounded good. *g*

i'm partial to table piano. i have difficulty keeping still and table piano is very good for tap-tap-tapping out great masterpieces and driving people crazy :)
and you're right. this song would make a great vid

I did that underneath the console bench at work yesterday and accidentally set off the hold-up alarm. Oh well. Important lesson learned, I guess.

It's so fun and lively. And at least this way I can share the mental pictures that I have with this song.

I, uh, actually really suck at playing the air piano - the height of the keys keeps moving, which is very offputting, and my brain keeps insisting on getting the fingering right. Sigh. Playing an actual piano has ruined me for the air version, I fear. (I can, however, play the air triangle quite well, should you want to beef out the percussion in your air band. *g*)

I like your vid.

Whereas my knowledge of learning to play a piano is so vague that I just try to hit the notes in time and at the roughly right end of the scale/keyboard.

(I can, however, play the air triangle quite well, should you want to beef out the percussion in your air band. *g*)

Dude, you're in. Every air-band can use an air-triangle.

I like your vid.

*beams almost as proudly as if she'd actually made soemthing*
