I've been looking at costs for producing me-zines. (I feel so much like Ali G as I type that.) Assuming I make ten copies -- I'll have a couple left over, but it makes the figures easier to work with at the moment -- I've looked at costs. Photocopying/binding costs look like it'll be just under AUD$23 for the pair (which is US$18 or GBD10).

Postage will depend on the weight/size, so I'm stopping by the post office this afternoon to check both. I think it'll be under 500g in weight, so I'll either have to post it as a parcel or as a letter (if I tie them up a little to skim under the 2cm thickness rule).

If a letter, international air-mail to UK and USA would be AUD$11.10 (which is US$9 or GBD5). If it's a parcel, air-mail will be AUD$14.00 to the USA (US$11) or AUD$16.50 to the UK (GBD7).

ETA3: It was totally over the expected weight. Hence, it'll cost an extra AUD$10 in postage, making the totals closer to US$35-37 and GBD$20-22.

*shakes impotent fist of rage at the post service*

That brings the expected price range to US$28-29 or GBD$16-17 for the pair. I'll do some more research tonight and tomorrow, and confirm these estimates, but I thought I'd keep people updated.

ETA: Any ideas on how international payment can be done? I don't have paypal, but I do have a credit card (um, if that helps at all) so I'm totally open to suggestions.

ETA2: I now have a Paypal account. Hopefully, that should solve all problems of payment. *crosses fingers*

Glad I live in Aus - but the price is still definitely doable so let me know when you want some cash!

International postage sucketh muchly. I mean, really? The cost is pretty ridiculous.

Meanwhile, of course, that's the next problem. How do I organise international payment? (For fellow Aussies, it's as simple as "transfer into my bank account" but I have no idea about overseas.)

Also, I'm hoping to get this organised within a week, and printed/photocopied/bound within two, posted over the next week and therefore ready to come with me to Brisbane by mid-June. Hence, if you can do it, I'd say money by next friday would be fantastic. (Email me and I'll send details.)

it might actually be worth looking at the whole paypal thing cause it looks like the money can be transferred directly to your account. i'll email for account details ;)

Not at all. (I don't think.) do you have any details of it (ie. fandom, etc)? I'm kinda curious as to why you asked about it.

i was trying to find a link, but nooo luck. it's a LotRiPS zine, 222 pages.
aaanyway, i mentioned it 'cause she's in Melbin too, and i think she went through cafe press and it turned out good, and maybe she'd be able to help out with advice on the postage/pricing side of things.

slinks back to the corner

Ahhh. Hmmm. I'm a little wary of trying to figure out cafe press as well. I'd kinda like to simply make a small number of copies, know that they've been prepared as I'd like, adn then have it all organised and done.

Definitely! I'm planning to check out costs a bit more (see if I can reduce the cost of photocopying, because international postage is an expensive whore), and then I'll post a poll in my LJ so people can select which ones they want, where they are/the postage costs, and give me email/physical mail details so I can send them paypal details and post it.

At the moment, I'm trying to feel out numbers so that when I get quotes, I can have a rought idea of how many pages, etc.
