TW Rec: Snowdon

I'm not a huge fan of gen fic. I don't read a lot of it because I usually don't get that same emotional punch from it. It doesn't usually have the type of scenes I re-read four times because the dialogue was that good and needs to be savoured.
But today I read Snowdon by
rivier. It's a fantastic post-S1 Torchwood story from Owen's POV dealing with Ianto.
Owen's not my favourite but he's interesting, brutally critical and harshly funny. In short: not my favourite, but fascinating and entertaining when done right. And Rivier does him *right*.
And using a tight POV and good descriptions, she makes a story of conversations sharp, vivid and intriguing. And so in-character that I want to go read it again.
As an odd sidenote, it's also one of the few stories that makes me believe that Owen occasionally sleeps with guys. Normally, he pings for me as almost-straight -- as close as any of the TW crew get to it, at least -- but this works. And, no, it is a piece that's totally gen. No pairings. But a wonderful look at the almost familial bond amongst a tight-knit group like TW3.

Date: 2007-04-09 02:05 am (UTC)Yes, please! Also, is there any chance you could send me the Runaway Bride (that is the title of the last christmas special, right?) too? I still haven't seen it.
I found myslef kinda LIKING Owen after I read this yesterday... the day before? Anyway, yeah, I'll secod the rec. As a matter of fact, I memoried it.
I like Owen. Not in the way that I actually want to have to spend too much time with him, but... I like the way he changes the group dynamic, I like his honesty, his sense of complete disrespect, his very clear sense of who he is and who everyone else is. (I mean, not that he always gets it right, but there is a fantastic boldness to the character that I find intriguing.)

Date: 2007-04-09 02:27 am (UTC)I'll throw in some other stuff in there as well (to fill out the DVD, why waste space?) with DT and JB. Some of them are just hilarious. I'm just gonna assume you don't have any of it. ;)
I don't actively hate Owen, but I don't usually like him either. The only time I came close to like him was inthat ep with Diane... what's the ep title? And in Countrycide, where I found him kinda amusing.
