Monthly Tally (June)
Jun. 29th, 2010 01:20 pmFannish works posted in June:
Nothing.
2010 total so far:
~ 13,969 words.
Thoughts:
Why is it that the perfect story snippets -- description, dialogue, scene shifts -- always come when you're nowhere near a computer (say, in the shower or in bed with the lights off, debating whether to get up) and when you have a spare ten minutes with a keyboard and computer screen, your mind goes blank?
I have three current wips (which in and of itself is something of a victory for me):
Prison Break - "PB talking" wip. OT3 Alex/Michael/Sara (or, hmm, more Sara/Michael, mentions of Alex/Michael, Sara/Alex which might possibly lead to Sara/Michael/Alex but I can't be sure yet). Jason-verse. Current word count: 3,410.
Heroes - "Undercover AU" wip. Matt/Mohinder. Undercover FBI AU that's lingered way too long. Current word count: 11,747.
White Collar - "Mozzie POV" wip. Neal/Peter (with mentions of Neal/Peter/Elizabeth) from Mozzie's POV. Current word count: 6,497.
That's over 20,000 words sitting in wips, and I haven't posted a finished story since March 2010. And the thing is, I've sat down at times and known the next scene and the next conversation, but I seem to be avoiding the sitting down and typing part of it.
I mean, yeah, for June, writing wasn't viable. Once you factored in organising the travelling for July and getting work stuff done before I go, I haven't had the brainpower to sit and work at fannish stuff.
I suspect that my lack of writing discipline will lead to my days of fannish writing ending with a slow, drawn out whimper. But given how well most of my life is going, I can't really complain about the little sacrifices that allow the bigger things to happen.
So, in lieu of actual writing from me, how about a quick SPN rec: Freedom Hangs Like Heaven by
aesc. Cas/Dean, 42,000, AU from 5.14. Awesome, awesome Cas characterisation (cranky, stubborn, serious but adorable Cas is something that should appear in all Cas/Dean fics) and the ending was perfect for me.
Nothing.

Date: 2010-06-29 01:59 pm (UTC)OTOH, I have posted 2 vids, 1 TW fanart, completed the SGA Reverse BigBang artwork challenge (can't wait to see the fics inspired by my piece!!), and just finished first of my Tardis BigBang art work. I'm expecting to do at least another 2 pieces for TBB. So it seems like I've turned into more of an artist/vidder than writer. Guess playing with pretty pictures require less brain power than writing.
