Exam is today (starts in eight hours). I feel a bit underprepared but at the same time, my current approach to dealing with academic stress has been late nights reading long Kurt/Blaine stories absolutely dripping with angst so it's completely self-inflicted. (No, seriously, I've read at least four stories over 50k -- I've got to say, the Big Bang challenges do result in good things for fandom -- and there's been character death, non-con and history of abuse. It's remarkable that within a show as bright and sharply upbeat as Glee, I've managed to find the perfect food for my inner angst-bunny.)

However, I've also found a delightful little story that I wanted to rec. A Winning Game by [personal profile] cimmerians. (It's not angst, I feel like I need to specifically say that at the moment.)

This has a Kurt Hummel voice that I absolutely adore. We saw Kurt's skittishness towards the idea of sex (and even worse, the idea of having to talk about it) in canon and I love that this story looks at that, and also remembers that this is a boy who can fiercely wear Lady Gaga outfits, who can be as gutsy and demanding as any stage diva, and has a lot of strength to stand up and be himself (most of the time). This story is basically Kurt deciding to tackle his own avoidance of sex and it's as sarcastic, ridiculous and funny as any Kurt POV should be.

He had temerity. He had tenacity. He had chutzpah. He had audacity. He had stubbornness—lots of stubbornness.

In short, he had the boldness, the intrepidity, the resolve to take his sexual dilemma, and his sexual destiny, into his own hands.

He was Kurt Hummel. He would fear no penis.

Apart from the awesome Kurt-voice, it also features three other things I adore. Firstly, the Hummel-Hudson family because I can never have enough endearing family moments between Burt, Carole and Finn, even if it's something like blurting out a random thought over the dinner table or living in a family where people will check on you if they think you're having a nightmare, or commiserating over a fear of clowns or being a teenage boy and being unable to think about anything but sex.

Secondly, Blaine as seen through Kurt's adoring eyes. Blaine who is sweet and earnest, even if he doesn't always get subtle nuances, who appears confident and sure, and really doesn't quite know what he's doing. But he's still happy to be doing it with Kurt.

Blaine was punctual, as always, and beautiful, as always, and as calm and composed as ever, and Kurt’s heart did a double-gainer in his chest as soon as he opened the door.

There is something so adorable about how these two are so shiny-happy-in-love (hearts in their eyes, people), but this story is also hot. That's my third favourite thing: toppy/bossy Kurt. Because, please, the boy who made such overt, determined moves on Finn Hudson is not going to be a wilting wallflower in bed. And for all of Blaine's apparent confidence and charm, there's something adorably uncertain when it comes to relationships and he's always so thrilled when Kurt initiates anything (asks him to prom, asks him to dance, kisses him back, brings him flowers).

I know I've read a few stories where Blaine is the first-time seducer, but in my heart of hearts, I don't really buy it. I think Kurt would be the one to make the moves because -- let's be honest -- Kurt Hummel does not do anything by halves.

Good luck-- my flatmate is doing a CPA exam today too, so I have an idea of what you're going through.
