Considering that I barely ever write fic, I do spend a bit of time reading about how to write better fic. Was interested by the English/Americanism's in this piece. I never knew that American's don't whinge, they whine!

Edited to fix the link...

Oops. Remembering to close the quotation marks in links would be a good thing! *g*

It should be here (http://www.fanfic101.com/giveaways.htm).

Thank you. It was interesting to read but makes me wonder if Aussies can fake British well enough or if those who do HP slash use a Brit beta....

I'm guessing they still use a Brit beta, as Bernice was looking for one for her Snape/Hooch fic a while ago.

The trouble is that we're almost close enough to fake the Englishism (especially if you watch all the BBC type stuff on ABC) but I think we're just Americanised enough to slip up.

Take the sweater/jumper thing, for example. I use both in everyday language, and tend to use "track suit top" even more often. I wouldn't be able to pick which term was English and which was American.

I think we get caught right in the middle. Too English to sound American, too American to sound English, and enough of each that we probably need betas from both sides of the pond.

...Can you tell I'm a little bored?
