Additional Tags: Alternate Universe- No Supernatural, Meet-Cute, Dean has a Fear of Flying

"On the flight over." When Castiel looks over, Dean's still blowing on his coffee. "He was my designated bad flyer."

Reflections
SPN is one of those shows I've always binge-watched (with the exception of S5-6, which I seem to have missed and not yet gone back on). Like a lot of the fandom, I'm very fond of Dean/Castiel but when I really, really like is rom-com meet-cute AUs. There's enough heartbreak in canon for me to be quite happy with happily-ever-afters, so I ended up writing what I wanted to read. (Another great rom-com style story is Peanut Butter-Pumpkin Wedding Cake which I can't recommend highly enough. I really love it as a story. Much like Pru's Asunder. Destiel AUs are a happy place for me.)

This actually came together surprisingly easily. You know those stories where you have ideas and you spend the day looking forward to writing the next bit? Where you have enthusiasm and enjoy following the characters through the story? It was one of those stories.

It has to Happen to Someone Else (100 words) by out_there
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sports Night
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Dan Rydell, Casey McCall
Summary:

“It’s not funny.”

A Certain Historical Accuracy (739 words) by out_there
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Kingsman (Movies), Genghis Khan - Miike Snow (Music Video)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Harry Hart | Galahad/Gary "Eggsy" Unwin
Characters: Harry Hart | Galahad, Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, Merlin (Kingsman)
Additional Tags: Crossovers & Fandom Fusions
Summary:

"I beg your pardon?" Harry asks politely. It's Harry-speak for 'what the fuck are you on about, bruv?'

"The song you were humming. It's from the gay supervillain clip." Harry still looks blank, so Eggsy rolls his eyes. "You have a smartphone. How do you not understand the concept of YouTube?"

Reflections
Drabbles and ficlets, but at least it's something. The SN drabble was written for Imzy's 100 Words comm, showing that I had a little burst of enthusiasm for Imzy and then lost it. The Kingsman was just a bit of fun because that Genghis Khan vid is so adorable.

October
Parties and Other Holiday Traditions (4095 words) by out_there
Chapters: 2/2
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Characters: Clint Barton, Phil Coulson, Natasha Romanov
Additional Tags: Christmas Party
Summary:

When it comes to the annual SHIELD Christmas party, Clint knows he has a reputation. No, that sounds bad. Clint has a… a really good success rate.

Reflections
I read a lot more MCU Clint/Coulson than I talk about, and this was terribly fun. It was mostly written in DW comments for [personal profile] misbegotten so it was a lot of fun to get direct feedback. It was also just... so much fun. It's a silly little get-together at the office Christmas party fic, light-hearted and snarky. But, again, *fun*.

All We've Left Behind (11190 words) by out_there
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Prison Break
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Alexander Mahone/Michael Scofield
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Space, IN SPACE!
Summary:

For ten times the price, Alex could have been on a better ship with a new stasis system; he could have closed his eyes on Earth and not opened them until they arrived on S0N-A104-5709. But no one with that sort of money ran away to a settlement planet.

Reflections

This was not so much fun. This Prison Break story had been on the backburner for about two years as a stalled wip but I really wanted it done. There's a lot of world-building and exposition in this and it took a bit of editing to make the characterisation feel right (it still doesn't feel as clear-cut as other stories, but it holds up enough), and like other attempts at Futuristic Space AUs, the idea in my head was far better than the final story. (Honestly, it reminds me of Cold Around the Edges, an old SGA fic of mine. The idea was really clear, I knew the emotions I wanted to hit, but the end result lost that emotional punch.) It's not a bad story, it's just not great.

But, really, I'm just proud of finishing it. And so glad that [personal profile] sdwolfpup was willing to beta and drag it back into focus for me. (And hilariously, it took me 27 months to complete. And now we have Passengers out, which feels like a Hollywood movie version of this story.)

Every Love Song a Secret To Be Shared (3118 words) by out_there, misbegotten
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel (Movies), The Avengers (Marvel Movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Characters: Clint Barton, Phil Coulson, Natasha Romanov
Additional Tags: Getting Together, Humor, Fluff
Summary:

Clint has stupid love songs stuck in his head. It's really annoying.

Reflections
Co-writing is the best. Seriously. I love instant feedback and response. I love being able to talk about stories and discuss and workshop and know that someone else is interested in your random detail you just figured out for this story.

The plot-bunny wasn't mine but it was so much fun to write. Especially when I could write the fun bits and then tag someone else to write the bit I didn't want to. :D

Conclusion

6 stories, so an improvement on last year. Clearly, these days I average around 20K output per year. But the theme in later stories is rediscovering the fun of writing, rather than just feeling guilty and unproductive.

Breakdown by fandom:
1 Kingsman / crossover - 739 words
2 MCU - 7213 words
1 Prison Break - 11,190 words
1 Sports Night - 100 words
1 Supernatural - 7,565 words
