2023 Yuletide letter

Hi! Turns out I have not participated in Yuletide since 2013 but I'm going to give it a go this year.
In general: Most of my prompts are movies that I loved and therefore would like to spend more time in. I'm hoping that since these are movies, if the matched prompt doesn't appeal to you -- it's not too hard to watch one of the others and write something for that.
I usually read and write m/m fic but for these, I'd be happy with gen or m/m or m/f -- basically, whatever you choose to write. I'm a fan of happy endings, of dialogue and character interraction, seeing how a character sees their world and reacts to it. If you get a plotty idea for one of these, I'd be excited to read it but I'd also be quite happy with something smaller and more reflective.
I love pining but I'm not a huge fan of angst. I'm not a huge fan of major character deaths and torture, (or anything terribly grimdark), but there's definitely violence and gallows humour in some of these films and I love them for it. So... you know what? Go wild. Write whatever appeals to you. I promise that I love these canons enough that I'll be happy with almost anything (with the exception of Don't Worry Darling because I have a specific fictional craving for a post-film story).
- The Birdcage (1996) - Any
Who doesn't love this movie? It's a delight. The entire cast is hilarious and beneath the farce, there's such a wonderful warmth and love to this story. As I said on my prompt, I'd love something fun and upbeat that spends a little more time in this world with these characters. How and where that happens is up to you.
DNW: heavy angst, death, misery in general. (Basically, I love these characters -- even the terribly conservative in-laws -- too much to want to see them sad.
- Don't Worry Darling (2022) - Alice
This film was amazing -- stylistic, creepy, fascinating -- but I always felt it stopped at a point where I was really invested and wanted to know what happened next. What did Alice wake up to? How did she free herself from being tied to a bed? How long had she been isolated from the world? What did she do next? Did she return to the hospital as a surgeon, did she go for vengence against the company, did she try to free the other wives? There's so much that could have happened next -- and how did that experience affect her in the real world? I'm guessing she'd never go back to ballet lessons.
That's what I'd really want to know more about.
- Dark City (1998) - Any
Such a stylishly cool movie, and quiet fascinating -- and I was always surprised that it wasn't a bigger hit. (I mean, the Matrix was huge and roughly the same time -- yet this remained such a hidden gem.) To be honest, I have no idea what you'd write for this film but I'd love to spend more time in that universe and with those characters.
- Road House (1989) - Any
Everyone loves Ghost and Dirty Dancing, for good reason, but Road House is probably my third favourite Swayze movie. Honestly, I'd be happy with anything set here. Dalton is a solid action character, a competent good guy who gets the baddies in the end. I won't deny that Dalton/Wade appeals to me, but I'd also be happy with anything set at that bar. It could be a story about Dalton, it could be an outsider POV passing through, whatever speaks to you.
- Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) - Harry Lockhart
To be honest, I'm very fond of Harry/Perry, if you can find a way to make that work (it's hard because Perry's fond of Harry but Harry is a bit of an idiot so I can understand why Perry might avoid getting romantically involved with that human disaster).
But having said that, I love this movie. Sheer style and interesting plot and flawed characters. I would be happy with m/m or gen or m/f. I really just want to spend a bit more time with them.
DNW: main character death, unhappy endings
- Death Becomes Her (1992) - Any
Again, this is another choice based on the fact that I love this film and any story that spends a little more time in this world would make me very happy. Madeline and Helen are so petty and so nasty but hilariously so. Earnest is definitely our hero who chooses happiness over vanity. And somewhere, Elvis is still getting spotted around the countryside even though he shouldn't be.
