I'm back from the birthday weekend and am now officially 22. I had a great time in Canberra!
I got to bed the night before at 1am, and then woke up at about 5.15am, to "The Jackel"! *g* (For non-WW fans, it's a song that CJ can lip-sync to with amazing ability, hence it has highly fannish connotations for me.) The flight was good too, and I heard "My Immortal" which will always be a Clex song for me.
(I love airplane music. I love the little schedules of what's playing, and flipping between channels for my favourite songs. First song I heard was "Simply Irresistable". Do you remember the back-up dancers from that song? And from his other hit, "Addicted to Love"? As a kid, I thought those girls were incredibly sexy. As an adult, I saw the chicks with their strong makeup, slicked back hair, and dorky dresses, and just laughed at myself. *g*)
Spent most of the weekend talking to Mum. We talk on the phone, but it's nice just having that girly time to chat and relax. Spent Saturday afternoon with my brother, who knows my film tastes and had borrowed videos for us to watch. The theme was dense buddy films, I think. We had Dude, Where's my Car (Pretty boys, plus there's kissing! Just love that scene... *g*), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (Mmmm...Eliza Dushku in very tight leather...), Wayne's World (sleazy Rob Lowe), Wayne's World 2 (not as good as the original) and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (which we didn't get time to see.)
My brother had to work for a couple hours, so I ended up watching "Red Haven's On Fire" with Dad and then discussing West Wing characters. It was interesting, because he just relates better to Toby and Bartlet than I do. I mean, Sam's my boy and Sam's his least favourite. The one thing we do agree on is that CJ rocks. *g*
We were talking about Sam's closeness to Toby vs his friendship with Josh (with no slashy overtones to the conversation. Really. *g*) and the high possiblity of Sam being "Bartlet: The Next Generation". Dad really doesn't believe that Sam could be president, which intrigued me. His basic reasons were that Sam was too naive (I would say "idealistic") and un-worldly, expecially when it comes to politics (I would say that Sam has shown political practicality, but that's mainly been S1 and S2). When I argued back that Bartlet himself is not the most politically aware and that he relied Leo, as Sam would rely on Josh (aka "Leo: TNG" *g*), Dad mentioned that although Sam had the ability to research and quote facts, Bartlet had a wider base of knowledge and a better overall understanding of the world. I'm still thinking about it.
This brought up the intelligence of the WW staffers, and Bartlet's reliance on them. According to Dad, the two most intelligent characters are Bartlet and Toby. Hmmm... You know, I'd argue that Leo and Josh are pretty damn smart too, and Dad mentioned how little Bartlet actually asks them for their opinions. It feels wrong, but I think it's true. Bartlet does seem to listen more to Toby than to Josh. Leo's main duties are big international stuff that he can't decide on, it needs to be the president, which brought up how few decisions he makes on his own. I still don't think that means that Leo is less intelligent, capable or decisive than Toby...
All the same, interesting to have such a fannish conversation on my birthday. Over the weekend, I had two cakes (one with Mum, one with Dad) and got some good gifts, as well as returning $130 richer. (Thank the Lord for birthday money!). I got pink roses (which I couldn't take across the border, so I left with Mum), perfume (Fire & Ice - a fave of mine) and a little book on 2003 for Leo's. I'm amused by the book, which had some general comments about Leos that are very true, even if I hadn't thought about them before.
I just home about half an hour ago, put on a washing and decided to catch up online.
ETA: Man, it took me half an hour to type up this entry. I think that means that I rambled, and I'm too tired to type quickly. *g*
